Hi, the interior trim of my 2003 SuperV8 is LGE and according to the manufacturer is called Warm charcoal but my interior is Jet black - is there a discrepancy here ? attached is a copy of the vin and the code found on the door jam
I do have some interior dye code LGE but it’s almost chocolate color not jet black

Terry: I have the same interior in a 2003 VDP. I think it's a matter of perception. I see a hint of grey in the upholstery. I suggest you find something that is truly black and lay it across a seat. I suspect you'll see a difference, perhaps somewhat subtle, but a difference.

 

You are correct it’s not jet black at all but it’s not chocolate either I guess I m going to remove a little trim part and send it to the seat doctor so he can match the paint -

It’s warm charcoal and use the filter for your car. They aren’t cheap and I have never used them so I would get a swatch from them first.

I have found it extremely difficult to match the original colors for the interior.
Even when patiently requesting samples from various sources, the actual
color one might get is not exactly what one might expect. Fading of the original
may be part of the problem.

I also tried to find some dye several years ago. I don't remember what brands I tried, but none of them were spot on color-wise. I thought about finding a salvage passenger seat, which are usually less worn than the driver seat. I think you could swap the leather over to the drivers seat. I think it would work for the seat base, but the switch cutout would be on the wrong side. I think I could cut a new hole for the switches, and the existing hole would be on the "inside" next to the hump/console where it would never be noticed.

That said, I think it would bug me knowing that the old switch cutout was there, even though I wouldn't see it, so I haven't actually tried it.

Swapping the seat back might work without any modifications, maybe?

I haven't dug too deeply into this, but it's something I think about once in a while, like when I read threads about repairing seats. Has anyone ever done a passenger seat to driver seat leather swap?

I've used the LEG Warm Charcoal kit on my car's interior and it's the best match there is.

 

Unfortunately they don’t deliver to the United States, according to the website. I would order a warm charcoal kit from them.

 

Most of the time, the seats are so worn and ragged from use that I
seldom try the repair or dye techniques. New leather can be very
expensive but ultimately worth the look. (at least in my book)

 

This is a bit an "off the wall" comment but have you thought about buying an English passenger seat cover in the right colour? It will be less worn and would have the control cutout on the proper side for a North American seat.
