Default Issues with 2003 XJR?

I'm looking for a 2003 XJR (as I prefer the styling before the aluminum body). Are there any particular weaknesses that I should be on the watch for? How about an upper limit on mileage?

Any input would be appreciated - Thanks

JF

No love for this thread? I'm looking at 2000-2003 XJR's, and I'd also be interested in the answers to these questions. If not, can any of you point me in the direction of a good resource?

I have had my 2003 xjr for about 6 months and no major issues, it has about 55000 miles on it. Like anything else try to get a clean car with good records. Try to stick with 02 03 01 have a tendency of having milky wood (can be restored for about 2k keep in mind your wood would be out of car for a few months) and certain 2000 andevery 98/99 have timing chain tensioner issues. 98 have nikasil issues but i believe many engines were replaced under warranty. BTW when you do get one becareful, the gas pedal is shall we say sensitive

thanks for the info! so, '01-03 XJR's might be a better choice to be looking at, with around 70-90K on the clock, compared to '03-05 S-Type R's with similar mileage? (i'm basing this on reading that STR's seem to fall apart at 100K.)

I'm at 81K and I'm starting to feel the front end getting loose. I'll be taking it to the dealer in a couple of months just because I don't currently have a lift or alignment rack. :-)

I have seen and fixed the trans o ring failure mentioned, a new set of wiper relays, and done nothing else but tires, brakes and service.

This has been the single most trouble free car I've ever owned. 03 XJR W/R1 package.
