Default Jag ran rough while starting.

Hello everyone! This may be not an issue at all or a big one. I started the Jag today after not driving her the day before. She did start up, no problems there, but after, I felt some shakiness. Now, the shaking wasn't bad at all, but just enough for me to notice. I also noted that the RPM seemed a tad bit higher than normal. Is all of this normal? Or should I have the Jag looked at? I'll start her tomorrow once everything is cooled down again, and I'll update on this thread. Thanks everyone!

Hi Pilotman11,

If the problem doesn't recur, it could have been something as simple as moisture on the air filter or some electrical component.

If the problem continues, my first question would be did you add fuel within the past couple of days and is it possible you got some water-contaminated gas?

Second question would be how long has it been since your last tuneup (air, oil & fuel filters; spark plugs; fluid checks & changes; etc.)?

Lots of other possibilities. If it hasn't been that long since your last good tuneup, it might be worth having the OBDII codes scanned at a local auto parts store to see if there are any stored codes.

Cheers,

Don

Thanks for the info Don! I started the Jag a few minutes ago and it felt better. However, I did feel a small bit of vibration.

It did rain last night for only 15 or so minutes, which isn't alot. I also had my car cover on, so nothing got wet. Perhaps damp, Even if some components got damp, it would have dried when I took the Jag for a drive today.

I have not added fuel since last month or so, still have a good amount since I don't drive a whole lot.

I got a tuneup about a month ago; everything was in check. Except the serpentine belt which got replaced.

I'll see if I can get a reader tomorrow. In my opinion, the vibration is not bad at all, it's very subtle. That's only on idle of course. While driving the Jag today, she ran nice and smooth, especially in Sport mode!

Even better, get your own OBD tool with live data and then check fuel trims. Could be a small air leak.

I'll try and get a OBD tool, could be a air leak since the Jag has had problems with that before. This morning, I can really only feel it through the steering wheel if that means anything. I don't think it's anything too serious.

Update: The vibration is gone! My only guess is some moisture got into the engine bay because of my car cover, and I just needed to run the Jag alot to clear it. I do have one more issue; the coolant light comes on for 3 seconds then goes away.. Is that normal? Thanks everyone!

The steering wheel is connected to the steering column, which is connected to the steering rack, which is connected to the crossmember/subframe which supports the engine, so that's how engine vibrations can be transmitted to the steering wheel.

That's good news that the vibration is gone. Regarding the low coolant warning lamp, do any other warning lamps illuminate, or only that one? Off the top of my head, I think all the warning lamps should illuminate for a few seconds, then extinguish. Regardless, you should check your coolant level to be sure it is at the correct level.

Cheers,

Don
