Im about to replace the disc rotors on my 1999 xj8 4.0 LWB.

I have 305mmm discs, non-brembo, just standard.
I refer to the JTIS software and the similar pdf version I have, it says
"check wheel bearing end float, refer to specification section 204-01...check Disc Runt out refer to specification section 206-03"

WHERE ARE THESE SPEC's LOCATED???...cannot find them, no numbers anywhere
(new discs just say 0.1mm max run out.. but whats jaguars measure?)

ALSO are the standard discs left or right handed?.. the 2 front and 2 rear ones I bought new have a slice of metal about 2 inches long machine cut out of the edge along the vents?
Would this be due to balancing or something?... or are they trying to mark the left/right ones by doing this as on the brembo's which are indeed handed and have a groove I believe to indicate left side.

Peter, standard rotors are not 'handed'.
That machining would just be for balancing.
As for specs...can't say but these rotors usually wear quite well and can be refaced at least once.
The big thing is making sure the mounting faces are both clean and free from any corosion
as this will tend to 'throw' the rotor from true running.
Makes sure there is a smear of anti-sieze applied to surfaces and just bolt up.

 

what type of anti-sieze are you referring to .. ? I was thinking some high temp silicone grease or something applied to the mating surfaces.
However I am all ears to any specific recommendation.
I painted the new disc rotors, being sure NOT to paint the mating surface (inner on disc) nor the pad areas.. took me all day to carefully tape and paint them up with a aluminium high temp caliper paint... NOW I will have to the CALIPERS themselves.... the fun never ends!!
SO what type of grease anti seize compound does one apply to the mating surface (hub to disc?

Any idea on the SPECS for end flota/run out from JTIS???. cant locate the numbers

I use "copper crest" or sometimes called "copper slip". Smear it on the back side of the brake pads before fitting.

When you rebuild it is also a good idea to use the same stuff on all bolt threads. Just makes it easier to get off the next time.

Never a squeak out of mine.

 

You will need a Dial Gauge to measure run out. Here's the specification from JTIS (arrowed in red - click on the image to enlarge it):

which section did you find this in in JTIS?... It says to refer to 204-01 but when I go to that there is nothing there... how /where did you find it...pages numbers please.

I have the dial gauge... how about hub bearing float specifications???
