Default Knock Sensor 1999 XJ8L

Hi, Getting a bad knock sensor code on my 1999 XJ8L.. Anyone familiar with the exact procedure to replace? Believe the code said it's on the driver's side!

try putting a meter on it to check it's dead first, I had a fault that WD40 on the connections fixed, you'll be looking for 200,000 Ohms or thereabouts.

Had a 'Bore Wash' problem with mine, when I got it going it spitted and f****d and I ended up with a Knock Sensor out. I removed the inlet manifold from the top, bit of work involved yes, but made the changing of both Knock Sensors really easy, (apparently over tightening them causes major issues too?). While the manifold was off, it also gave me chance to check the valley pipes were good and sound, and the low breather pipe and connections were sound, well worth the effort. I also replaced the plastic Thermostat Tower with a metal one, with the manifold off it gave me access to the two small bolts at the back of the tower, difficult to get out normally.

A broken Knock Sensor will affect the timing of the car too (I think the timing defaults to Retarded?). I couldn't believe the difference in performance after both my Knock sensors were done... amazing!

Since this forum deals with RHD and LHD cars, it is a REALLY bad idea to describe 'driver's side or passenger side' for location.

Bank 2 is the left bank.

You can get to the 13mm nut and remove it for the knock sensor. You might have to remove the stud as well if the KS cannot be lifted high enough the clear the stud.

The stud removal will require an E Torx bit.

Then the KS can be 'fished' out and the replacement fitted in place so the stud can be re-inserted.

All this can be done through the intake runner gaps.
