limited slip diff
Was a limited slip differential ever made for the X308, I have a 3.2 sport so I'm guessing none of the XJ8's had them but was it an option or did it come on the XJR. If not has anyone had one made or have one on their X308?
It's been done, but not by the factory. I think avos built (or purchased ) one for his 500 HP XKR. Try searching his screen name, maybe private message him if enabled.
Apologies if my memory on the subject is inaccurate, but I think that may get you headed in the right direction.

Oh good. I'll follow both those up. Thanks!!
Do you mind me asking what the rough cost of it was. I'd say it is a small downfall on the XJ and one which would improve it a fair bit. Also much nicer to see two black lines when going sideways

I think they are charging about 1560. pounds plus VAT. I went a different route in that I installed a 3.58 ratio pozi diff from a 6 cyl XJR. I had to have my TCM reprogrammed as well. The conversion also involves a new front diff mount plate, which also has to be slightly modified. I am not sure how to change ratios on a normally aspirated car.
You can contact Tom from TLJaguar in the UK, he and Racing Green sell the Quaife LSD which is an ATB type.
I think they sell the ATB unit itself for about 850-900GBP (forgot the price), then you need to place this in you diff and you probably would also change some bearings which all would be a specialist’s job. This could be another 300 GBP. Then you need to add the costs for taking the diff of and back again, could be another 300 GBP, as also here you might want to renew bushes here and there.
I have a clutch type system (2 way), which has some advantages, but also disadvantages, though so far I love it, not just because of the extra power I have, also for the ability now to drive in the winter amongst others.
Andre.

wow i didn't think it would be that much, thanks for the info, but on an x308 its not really worth it because of value of the car but who knows in the future. thanks though

You may want to recheck your car as the X308 never had a LSD offered in any configuration, if they had it would have made it much cheaper for all of us who have upgraded to LSD. If anyone is looking for a 3.58 LSD diff conversion I have one for sale. Contact me for details.
Actually it was in "Jaguar World". They had an atricle about this and the traction control/stability control button. They say that if you turn the stability control off that you could burn up the clutches in the limited slip. In fact I think my clutches could be worn badly as I had to turn the stability/tract control off to move the car in snow in the driveway. I can feel it spinning one wheel and then the clutches trying to engauge and causing a bumping till the other wheel locks in. This is not a car for snow. Any way will try to get the article for you.
@Walter2.
Jaguar has not made any LSD for these models, that is a fact and not an opinion.
The Quaife unit you are reffering to is an ATB type differential, that only last year was developed by Quaife for this model range. It doesn't have any clutches, it is a ATB "Automatic Torque Bias" differential, which uses gears to transfer torque to the wheel that still has grip.
