You need to find the forum for your car and then when you post be sure to put the car details in.

Welcome to the forum Bob,

Your profile shows "Jaguar X300 yr 2000". The X300 is the 6 cylinder model which was produced from 1995 to 1997. After that came the X308 - the V8 model produced from 1997 to 2003.

Confirm which model you have and I'll move your question to the appropriate forum.

Graham

Thanks Bob,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X308 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Welcome to this forum Bob ;o)
We all started somewhere, so don't be bashful about coming forward with ideas and problems to be solved....that's what this is all about ;o)

In your case, it sounds like it could be the connector for the oil pressure sender which is next to the oil filter assembly.
To my knowledge there is no other device in the general area where the cable would be long enough.
You obviously have no warnings come up....because the alternator is also there on that side....check the back of it to make sure all is clean and connected....use a bright digital torch.

Probably an unused VVT plug... Check if you have one the other side...

Could be wrong but I thought the 3.2 and 4.0 litre engines use different
engine harnesses?

Nope. The VVT plugs dangle at the front. They should be strapped to the heads but most of the times just dangle around...
