Default Need help to Identify were this bigger has broke from

Hi guys .I have been changing the spark plug boss seals today.and after taking off the rocker cover gasket I came across this light brown plastic thing which has obviously broke off from some were and at some point been chewed up by the timing chain.it was located just under the casino of the automatic chain tensioner. I got a torch to see if I could see were it has come from I can see there is a plastic plate made of the same material fitted inside to the lid of the cover.just thought maybe that had been changed due to damage to old one and some one missed seeing it.so what parts of the timing chain set is made of plastic.do these engines have plastic chain guides because if so I am going to strip the front of in case it breaks up and whips the chains off and serious engine damage accurrs. 7
