Norma Push & Seal-R...Not !
I just finished replacing all the heater hoses on my 1998 XJ-8. I have only one problem: the big Norma Push & Seal-R fitting on the passenger side is oozing out the small hole on top of the connector. I am not getting any leaks on the seal between the fitting and the pipe...just out of the small hole. I started the car and let it run for about 45 minutes to see if it might quit after the coolant got up to pressure and temp. It did stop for a while sitting at idle, but eventually began leaking after I drove a short distance.
According to everything I researched on this forum, the connector is locked correctly..with a blue band showing at the front. What is the purpose for these small holes ? Anyone else having this issue ?

Im assuming the hose you changed is the one pictured below - did you replace with new? Was there any corrosion on the end of the pipe when taking old one off, if so this needs to cleaned properly or may have not seal correctly.
Once the hose is on, slide the retainer back and when you see green stripe, it's locked on. It shouldn't be leaking from anywhere.

I installed all new heater hoses. After removing the old octopus hose, I cleaned the pipe with a scotchbrite pad and LPS-2 lubricant. Pipe had only a slight bit of corrosion to remove. The new Push & Seal-R fitting slid up and locked...blue band showing on new fitting...was a green band on old fitting. Now, no leaking from connection between pipe and connector, but it is oozing from small holes on on Push & Seal-R fitting. The holes are on the top and bottom of the fitting. All other hoses and connectors are dry .
As long as its locked on, and cant push off, then I'd say you may have a parts warranty issue on your hands. It shouldn't be leaking from anywhere. May need to take off and inspect that connection to see if you can see anything, then compare it to another new one.
I removed the Norma fitting and the o'ring seems to be ok from a visual inspection. The pipe is smooth and not damaged. I installed the Norma fitting once again...same problem. At this point, I am considering cutting the Norma fitting and adapting another short piece of hose to the pipe with clamps.
I actually replaced the same hose just a few days ago, what a pain those are to R/I... Quickly looking at the old hose's connector, I don't see how the norma fitting would leak through those holes unless there is a leak internal to the connector. It'd have to be before the O-ring, since if the O-ring was leaking it would be dripping through the tangs/clips that hold onto the pipe fitting, instead of those holes on the connector. I think JBz is correct on a warranty claim.
Hose update: first of all. thanks to all who responded to my post...I really appreciate the advice.
What I did was to try everything I could to keep from cutting off the Push & Seal-R fitting. I was able to install a new o'ring...still leaked. So I decided to chop off the Norma fitting, and splice in a 5" piece of 3/4 heater hose with clamps...problem solved !

Hey n1068d.... just replaced the very same hose 'web' on my 2001. EXACTLY same leak from one of the holes (or so it appears). The NORMA connectors does appear to be locked in good. I really have zero desire to remove the whole thing and send back for 'defect'. Probably would be sent another with exact same issue. Wonder if an entire batch of these were defective.... Probably will go the route you described here. Question though: what did you use to remove the sealed 'ring' on the other end of the hose with the NORMA?
Hi Brian:
I have had no problems since I removed the Norma fitting. I am not exactly sure what you are asking in your question. The fitting on the opposite side was ok on my hose, so I did not remove that one. I did replace the plastic Tee fitting.

Hey n1068d, thanks for your reply and sorry if I was unclear in my question. I was referring to the fastener/ring as pointed on the picture (it's factory 'sealed'). I was planning to run a new rubber hose from that 'T' to the metal hose the Norma is supposed to hook up to. Assuming that is what you have done successfully.
OK..now I see what you are asking. I suppose you could cut the compression ring and add another hose in place of the one with the Norma fitting, but in my case. I elected to cut off the Norma fitting and use a 5 inch section of 3/4 heater hose and a 3/4 hose coupler instead. The 3/4 black hose coupler worked very nicely, and of course I used a hose clamp on the hose over the metal pipe. You don't even notice the splice unless you hunt for it. Good luck !
