Has anyone done an oil analysis of these engines over time? The BITOG site is mad keen on it.

None of ours reaches operating temp in our daily commutes.

Go look up the definition of severe service. It does not include racing.

I don't know of any maintenance schedule on any car that includes racing activity, jumping off cliffs, abandoning them under trees for decades or any other of a thousand possible oddball uses for a car.

In your other post you described short drives where the engine does not each full operating temperature. This falls within the definition.

There's a good reason for that - this is from Jaguar's X308 workshop manual:

"Engine cooling is via a low volume, high velocity system which achieves a very fast warm up"

I normally get the Jaguar OE filter. The pictures of the cheap bypass valves and paper filter media not holding up keep me away.

FYI - Autohaus now sells the exact drain plug for $4 and the air filter is the same german filter .. I think I paid about $12 ......... have not tried ordering the oil filter .. couple on the shelf. The free shipping minimum went up.
