Bought a '98 XJ8L back in January, at a good price, but considering who it was purchased from, I expected to have to do some work on it.
With some invaluable guidance from this forum, I dove in. Replaced the fuel pump, cleaned out the throttle body, changed plugs and air filter (about 30K miles overdue), replaced the coolant reservoir, airflow sensor and intake, PLUS has the transmission rebuilt. Now, another minor issue has cropped up: a leak in the cooling system.
You can see the crack where the hose connects. Question: can someone ID this part so I can try to locate one to replace it? Thanx!
I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X308 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

That's the outlet pipe or crossover pipe AJ85885 available online from many suppliers. This is a good time to replace the thermostat housing with aluminum, also thermostat and hoses.
But more important, are the secondary chain tensioners upgraded to the metal body 3rd gen?

That's a very good question, to which I have no idea of the answer. How would I tell? My guess is that, considering that the previous owner didn't even bother to gap the plugs when they were changed, I doubt it.
....... and you only came along with a simple question about a cracked piece of plastic!
All good advice about checking the tensioners. Several forum members with various V8 Jaguar models have had reason to regret not finding out type and condition until it was too late.
The good news is you seem able to do the work yourself. There are many, many threads on replacing the secondary tensioners. Expensive at the dealer, less so at an independent, under $200 if you do the work yourself. Just read every bit and have it memorized.
Same deal if you decide to change the plastic Thermostat tower while replacing the crossover pipe. For a few bucks more and another twenty minutes you could change the water pump as well. Do not lean on those plastic pipes running from the overflow bottle.

I have a pragmatic approach to auto repair, and simply stated, if I can reach it, I can probably fix it. I just took a look at an article (not on this forum) that went into great detail, and it looks like a pretty hairy job.
I'll look into it, and if the added cost is worth not having to undertake it myself, I'll go that route, but one way or another, it will be money well spent. Already hearing a little tick from the front.
As for the water outflow pipe, be careful where you buy it. I purchased mine from eBay (due to the sensor in the middle literally shooting off and spraying hot coolant in my face). I paid about $80 after shipping, they can be had for around $50. Try RockAuto or CarID.
