Default Pic or Diag of Brake Cooling Ducts? RESOLVED

Does anyone have a diagram or a photo of the brake cooling ducts and how they're supposed to be installed and all the parts that are needed? I have one duct (passenger side) that was hanging loose (it was attached to the bumper but hanging loose at the rear end of it) so I took it off and put it in the trunk for safe-keeping! I don't know if it's supposed to somehow attach to the piece hanging down near the wheel or not. I have nothing on the driver's side. I'm very interested to see how it's supposed to look. I know I need some parts (including the splash guard!) but I can't seem to find any diagram in my JTIS to help me.

Thanks.

I have what I think are called the wheelarch liners on both sides -- this is the passenger side. The driver's side, of course, looks almost identical. The second photo is the one cooling tube that I have, it was attached on the passenger side of the inside of the bumper (left side of tube in pic) -- looks to me like there should be some kind of piece that fits in the big window of the wheelarch liner and then the tube would fit into that piece. Is this correct, or does the tube just "sit" in the window?

yeh it looks like you need a frame that screws around the inner wheel arch cover hole, then the brake duct snaps in....

Thanks! I thought there was such a piece, now to find two of them. The cooling ducts are easy to find. Any idea what the part is called?

The part number is HNC4469AF (Brake Cooling Duct - Rear):
Look like item#5 Brake Cooling Duct goes into the front part of the Wheel Arch Liner and item# 6 Brake Cooling Duct - Rear must hold it in place on the Wheel Arch Liner.

The retail price at Jaguar Dealership is $12.55 discount down to $10.19

I took this picture before I sold the XJ Sport...
my XJR has both ducts in place luckily, but also make
sure you aren't missing the lower tray that conceals them.
It should screw on to the painted surface, and
have a 1ft rubber lip in the centre. A lot of the
XJs I have looked at are missing the ducts, and
the lower tray as well.

Me having this photo is such a coincidence. I
don't even have an XJ with me at the moment.

Thanks Jim for the part numbers and diagram. I couldn't find that one in my JTIS.

Also thanks Ian for the photo.

I found a guy on this site who is selling me some of the parts, including the tray (splash guard). I might end up being short one tube, but I'll see later this week.

I used a couple of small screws to hold mine together more securely since they seemed to be barely holding on. Cheap insurance.

Mike....save yourself the trouble and just remove entirely and blank of fthe openings.
In most driving situations they are not needed....unless you do a lot of mountain carving or track days ;o))

They are a PIA!

I blanked off the entries under the bumper with a shaped piece of plastic and gaffer tape .
At the wheel arch, I shaped some more plastic to cover the hole and pop rivetted them in place.
Stops a lot of mess and if you run ordinary brake pads, not as much dust.
Nothing to come adrift and nothing to rattle.

Most importantly I would like to have the splash guard in place -- hope to get it installed this week. As for the brake coolers, if I can get them installed, I'd like that, but I'm not losing sleep over it. Thanks for all the help - this place is great!

I had a warped brake disc and coincidentally the brake duct was not in it's place... not sure if the lack of cooling had caused the warping, but it sure didn't help in preventing it. Whoever had installed the engine block heater had apparently removed the duct to make way for the wiring.

My pipe and skid/splash came off in the snow. Tabs in the front clip that hold the pipe in place also broke off. Anyone know if this stuff by 3M would be recommended for repair on the bumper holes?

On-line Product Catalog: 3M

Or should I just zip tie the pipes in or something?

My cooling pipe came out a few years ago... while travelling down the highway. Made a hell of a noise!
The parts were broken, but nothing was missing, so I just used cable ties to stitch it back together and secure it to the wheelarch liner, so there's no chance of it coming loose again

Did the tabs break off where pipe connects to grill / bumper? I guess I'd have to drill holes to use zip ties there.

From what I can remember, the front of the duct fits over, or inside, part of the bumper. The tabs don't really do much.
You should only have to secure the back end, inside the wheel well, and that will stop it moving.

Mike, save yourself a whole lot of grief and get rid of them!!
I chucked mine about five years ago and blocked over the holes with some panels pop riveted in place.

It's not as if you are running on a race track....these things are useless and i have never had any brake over heating problems.
I run standard discs with Akebono ceramic pads.

Is the splash guard also known as the skid plate? One single piece that attaches to the bumper?

We refer to it as the 'Belly Pan' and yes, it's the wide plastic shield that attaches to the bottom leadsing edge of the front bumper.
I use stainless self tappers to mount mine.....far more secure than those useless factory rivett things called 'scrivetts' ;o]
