I have another thread going about replacing the front left and front right injectors in my car. This is a little different question, not directly related to that project. I ordered an injector rebuild kit that contains O-rings, micro screens, and pintle caps. My plan is to someday "rebuild" the other 6 injectors that are not making so much noise, if I ever have to remove the supercharger. In the meantime, I am using the two noisy injectors as learning tools, since I enjoy that kind of thing.
Anyway, the pintle caps that were included in the rebuild kit are about 4mm shorter than the OEM caps. They fit and snap in place on the old injectors fine. Take a look at the picture and let me know if it matters. It LOOKS like it would matter, but I'm just learning about injectors, so I have no idea. Google doesn't seem to think that the longer pintle caps exist anywhere on earth, which seems odd unless Jaguar was the only ones to use these caps on the Denso injectors. Theoretically, you can get the old pintle caps off without breaking them, clean them up, and reuse them. However, I have already broken one of the two, so I assume I would break more. Would the shorter ones be ok to use if I never find a supply of the longer ones?
Hmmmm.... There had to be SOME reason for the longer barrel. If nothing else but to
inject further into the cylinder. If they are undamaged, I think I would stick with stock.
