Problem with Fuel Filling

I have a 1999 XJ8 that I am having problems filling it up, it stops at usually 2 gallons average and acts like it is full. I know it is not cause I put well over 300 miles on it when I filled up and it does not appear to allow much in it, acts like it is full, however I know it is not. Any suggestions as to what might be clogged and what I can do to fix this ?
What does your gas guage say? I've had gas pumps that from time to time just keep shutting off and like doug says I have to pull back and fill slowly to keep the gas from backing up and shutting the pump off. How many times have you tried to fill it?

Gas gauge says 1/2 tank sometimes a little more sometimes a little less.
I try filling up at least once a day, changing the way I put the nossle in and sometimes more than once a day.. The holes in the filler bubble up sometimes and sometimes the you hear a gurgling noise from the filler cap.
Any help or suggestions would be great.
Thank you
Steve

Sorry, but I had to delete my first reply because after I copied and pasted copyrighted material I realized I should not do that.
But what the material said is that the carbon canisters could be at fault if they have liquid fuel in them or kinked hoses.

Hi Doug, thats ok. Just not sure where all the canisters are. I will have to take a closer look at the car and see what I can find. This happens at many different stations so it is something with the car. I know the station is not the same everytime I fuel.. Even though I tend to prefer certain stations over others.. But have tried others just to narrow it down.
Thank you for the information. I will see what I can find and hopefully get this resolved soon.

Good Morning Gentlemen,
I'm looking to purchase a 1998 XJ8 Vanden Plas & the dealer states that he's having the same problem w/it...This jaguar does run and drive well although we are having a problem getting fuel into the tank. It WILL NOT allow fuel to enter the tank, it over flows out the fill neck. This vehicle can be transported to your door or may be hauled away on a trailer. I don't want to have to rent a trailer to haul if it can run on it's own...I'm currently a 83 xj6 owner, that I've replaced the tanks, floats, etc...I'm pretty good w/a wrench, so it something that I can fix on the fly?

This happens frequently with the Land Rover Discovery 2. A vent tube gets bent and does not allow pressure to release. I've never heard of it on an XJ8, but I would bet a shiney nickel that's where the problem lies.
