I bought a 2000 XJ8 several months ago with only one key. I did not realize this green key is a valet key, but it is. I found out about one problem today - my battery was dead and I could not use the valet key to access the battery in the trunk - I needed to hot shot to the engine.

Are there any other downsides to using a valet key as the everyday key?

You could have opened the trunk by opening the hood and used the false bulkhead connection:

In the engine compartment on the passenger side there is a rubber cap on the false bulkhead, pull the rubber cap off the stud then put a positive jump lead on it and the negative jump lead to the chassis as a ground.

Now you will be able to open the trunk. DO NOT try to jump start the car this way.

Earl, it is quite easy to modify your green valet key to be a master key if you want to use it as a daily driver key. The only difference is the width of the very tip of the key. I small file and a bit of talent will reward you for free. Ask if more info is desired. Brandon
