Default Rattle/thump drivers floorboard

2000 VDP SC....
Ok, driving down a smooth road no issues. When hitting dips or potholes I get a heavy rattle or thumping noise that sounds like it is coming from at the drivers floorboard (and no I didn't drop my beer, that would be sacrilegious). I rebuilt the whole front end a few years back and checked it today and all seems tight. It doesn't pull nor shake the wheel either.
What I saw by the floorboard is the sub frame connector for the suspension and motor. I stuck my nose up around it, didn't see any marks from excessive movement. I tried using the jack to push it a bit, but I really didn't see anything abnormal. If any of you have a suggestion how else to check that, please enlighten me?
So, my question is, what could it be? Is it a common issue (I did a search to no avail)? If it is the sub frame connector bushing, how much of a B is it to fix?
I appreciate any assistance y'all may render....HH

Hi Highhorse,

Before you commit to drop the front subframe/crossbeam, you might check your gearbox/rear engine mount, a known source of knocking sounds when it perishes:

Gearbox Mounting-3.2/4.0 Litre-V8 - Parts For XJ Series from (V)812317 to (V)F59525 (X308) | Jaguar Classic Parts UK

If you decide the rear pivot bushes on your subframe must be replaced (Part 2 in the diagram below), you'll also want to replace the Vee mounts that connect the subframe to the inner fenders/wings (Part 5):

Crossbeam Assembly-Front-3.2/4.0 Litre-V8 - Parts For XJ Series from (V)812317 to (V)F59525 (X308) | Jaguar Classic Parts UK

In case they may be helpful, below are links to photos showing the process on our '93, which is a little different from the X308, but similar in many respects:

Don, thank you so much, I'll be checking that gear box mount asap, wouldn't want to put in a ton of work just to find out its the wrong item.

Ok, well I decided to go by my mechanic, good Irish chap, and ask him about the cost of him doing this work. He told me to hold my horses (no pun intended) and to check a couple other things. One of those was the top shock tower mount bushings. Gee, guess what is disintegrating with a nice gap forming. I love my mechanic, he's as honest as the day is long. The cool thing is he had some tower bushings he had recently replaced and showed me exactly what happens to them....and yes mine looked like it. They had dried up and were permanently compressed and shaving down.
So I ordered the new bushings for both sides and as soon as they get in, I'm on it. Then we'll see if those sub frame bushings are still good or not.
