rear end banging
My 99 XJ8 is showing signs of her age I guess and is indicating this by lazy changing of gears and sometimes hard bangging, what's actually going on? Most greatfull for any insight here before I head to a fixerupper.
If it's clunking coming from the rear end, and not the transmission, it could be something less catastrophic like the driveshaft jurid couplers, half shaft U-joints, rear subframe bushings, etc. and that depends a lot on how exactly the clunking behaves.
Slow gear changes and banging into gear does sound like A drum though.

When my A drum went out I originally thought I got rear ended. When I looked in the rear view mirror and didn't see a car I knew something was wrong. The only warning I had was a couple odd shifts then the BANG. So to me the trans bang sounded like it came from the rear. Any codes? lights?
