Default Rear spring pan to body studs...!?

Hey there,

where on Earth are you supposed to find the parts number for the rear spring pan studs!? The ones between the body and the spring pan, when connected to the body (undercarriage).

Even my local Jaguar dealer, a very competent bloke in the parts department, can't find them. They seem to be 'Unobtainium'. I've searched Jaguarclassicparts everywhere. X308 and X300. I can't find them.

So, I was considering replacing them with bolts/screws instead. Does anyone know what the thread is? I'm sure metric, but what one exactly?

before I remove the rear shocks, I just want to make sure I have back ups in case something happens - which it will...

Cheers

Damien

Don't know about the bolt's thread but I have an EGR valve stud and a cat stud on my shelf to find out if one of them is suitable to replace the old studs. I'll swap out my rear axle next week so I think I'll be able to shed some more light on this issue.
Will report back.

I was thinking of the manifold stud BUT I think they won't quite work. At least as far as I see. I THINK the thread is different. Would make life a lot easier though! Please keep us updated!

The XJ40 used M8 X 1.25mm paint clearing BOLTS.
You can use bolts if you need to.

You might see if STUD TE108041J is what you are looking for????

Hey Bob,

thanks for the thread specs.

The stud doesn't look right. It lacks the 'torx head' part (not the normal femail torx, dunno what they were properly called). The studs are like the exhaust manifold ones, just seem either shorter or beefier...

But thanks again! Really helpful!

You can 'double-nut' the stud and install it into the body. remove the nuts and it should work fine.

I don't know the part number for the External Torx Studs.

Dear gents,

As promised I'lll report back concerning replacement of the rear spring pan studs. First, let pictures speak:

None of them really look like they are 100% the type which is used as pan studs. But in my mind the AJ88495 (EGR valve stud) is the most likeliest to fit. BUT when I tried to unscrew the old bolts, I stripped the torx heads! Even using penetrating oil etc didn't work.
I guess with taking the risk of having some of the bolts drilled out etc it's no impossible task. Since my bolts just were a little stiff when fitting the nuts due to rust, I didn't want to be bothered with any drilling action.
So I let them alone and found them good enough to last another few years.

With the rear axle assembly removed I was able to thoroughly clean the threads from debris and rust. This worked out excellent so that I didn't experience any stiffness anymore when fitting the new spring pan nuts.

I simply soaked it all in Güsol and was able to undo the nuts... I'll be replacing them probably with screws instead...

Btw., loosen the nut first and THEN undo the studs. The nut will let/make the stud snap
