Default Replacing a second key and remote

Cant seem to find the second set. Any advice on where to have a key made? Can an auto locksmith find the key code with the one good key and the VIN?
Can only a dealer properly set the remote?

I see mention in threads about Triple C.

I also bought a good remote from Ikeyless in the past.

All ideas welcome.

Anybody can set a new remote(s).

Anybody can read you Jag's Key code with a good key:

How to Read your Key code

Then you have a Locksmith who can make Tibbe keys make you a new "transponder key" and have your car programmed to accept it.

Len,

It is my understanding that remotes can be purchased very easily and cheaply on e-bay etc, and self-programmed also easily.

Replacement keys I believe are another thing. I believe replacement keys can be purchased pretty cheaply online, but it seems the only place you can get replacement keys programed is at a Jaguar dealership, and the vehicle needs to also be present. Not sure of exact pricing, but I've heard it is not cheap.

There are two ways to get the second key:

1. Cheap - Bring your working key to a well equipped locksmith and he will make you a copy - cut the blade of the new blank key and clone your key transponder (the new blank should have space in its head for a transponder and the locksmith should have "blank" transponders that can be programmed as a copy of the transponder in your working key). The cloning takes a minute or so, no need to bring the car.

2. Expensive - Buy an original Jaguar blank key and have it cut by a locksmith. Then you will have to add this key to your car security module by a dealer or someone who has the proper programming equipment (you have to bring the car and both keys). This process will disable the lost key.

Programming of the remote is easy. You can do it yourself if you follow instructions in the attached document. This will also disable the lost remote.

Also dont forget the X308 key is the same as all Fords from the same era. Cheap as chips to buy blanks.

Keys, no. No Fords in the US use Tibbe keys, just some of the "world" models we got.

Remotes, some. The later cars use cheap ford remotes, but the earlier years use expensive Jag remotes.

You could still buy a cheap "Euro" ford key from ebay and they come with transponder that can be programmed by any decent locksmith. Just saying it would be a cheap way to make a spare key.

Or Jag specific if transponders happen to be different...

Link was all about the keys itself. Not the fob/remote?

The earlier fobs transmitted at 315 Mhz and the later types at 433.9 Mhz (the frequency is written at the back of the fob). They are not interchangeable, their Security Modules are different and the antennas (in the rear windscreen) are different. Putting the later 433.9 Mhz module in, where the original one was 315 Mhz, and programming it to the car may be a problem. The best is to get the same Mhz fob as your original one. You can buy a used one or a new aftermarket, just make sure it is the same MHz as what you have.

Yes. Thank you.

I do have 433mhz LJA2610BA. And as these conductive rubber buttons are a bit unreliable I would like to buy latest ones LJE2610BC. They should work?

LJE2610BC will not work. You just reminded me of what I did a couple of years ago - I also have LJA2610BA and, as the LJE2610BC was less than a third of the price of the LJA, I bought one (new). When I tried to programme it to the car, there was no communication at all. The LJE2610BC does not have its frequency stated at the back so I do not know what the problem is but it simply does not work. Then, I bought a used LJA2610BB (that superseded LJA2610BA, same thing) and everything is fine. Cleaning the rubber buttons and the points on the PC board usually solves the problem with some (or all) buttons not working.

Darn
I've fixed both LJA fobs I have by replacing rubber contact pads with new ones and they work now fine. But usage feel isn't there as you know. Well I'll just have to live with these.

I have contacted locksmith and they are not able to replace the second key so i prefer hiring the dealership for it.

I purchased 2 "cloneable" keys from a vendor on e-bay. I found a local Myrtle Beach SC mobile locksmith who came to my residence, was able to cut the Tibbe keys, and clone them without having to go through the tedious process to do the regular programming. The keys were $32 dollars, the cutting and cloning was $200 dollars US. I have read that Ford dealers have the key machine for Tibbe, but you will need to find a locksmith that can do the cloning, which I found a few here. My car is a 1998 x100 XK8.
