Restricted Performance after replacing Thermostat Housing on 2001 XJ8

Hi ya all need advice here. Well don't we all. Anyways i had a cracked Thermostat Housing so i replaced it with the Aftermarket full Metal Housing. Pain to get on but here is my Issue now. After peplacing and adding a new Thermostat i was able to get it back togethere (Thanks to Snap On Tools and the 8MM Crow Foot tool) Refilled the Fluids and started the Engine. Then my Check Engine Light came up and Restricted Performance with Amber Light. When driving the car accelerates Slow and also cuts out when hitting the Pedal hard. Any Ideas what went wrong? Oh yes it is a 2001 XJ8. Thank you for any help in advance

You may have air in the cooling system since you had to replace the thermostat. Can you get the DTC's that caused the check engine light to illuminate.

Whats the DTC are you talking about the Codes? What do i need to get them? And if i have Air in the System how would i remove it. Thank you for the reply by the way

If the check engine light came on you have a Diagnostic Trouble Code or DTC stored in the computer. You need a compatible scanner that plugs into your ODBII port and reads the DTC codes, etc... You would try Autozone or a similar auto parts store, they sometimes allow customers to use them to pull codes.

Fill the cooling system at the header tank until the level stabilizes at the top of the breather neck. Allow at least 2 minutes for air to purge from the system. Top up the header tank as required and fit the pressure cap. Switch on the ignition, switch off the climate control system and start the engine. Run the engine at between 1500 and 2000 rpm until the cooling fans operate. Switch off the engine and allow it to cool down. When cool, remove the pressure cap and top up the system as necessary at the header tank

I suspect that one of the connectors on the side of that housing is noit fully seated,or you broke a wire. As I remember, both are temperature sensors. The x308 cooling system is prettyt easy to "burp", unlike the old jags, so if you fill to the top odf the resevoir, and you mounted the thermostat with the drip hole in the correct orientation, it should blled air after first run.

If you got restricted performancem, as Pat said, you should be able to pull codes. Autozone, Advance and Scottys all will read them for you , as far as I know.

hello to ALL
I have a 2000 XJR that I replaced the thermostat on but i think I may have placed the thermostat wrongly. I need help with the placement of the hole in the thermostat...should the hole be in the top or bottom when I insert the thermostat into the housing?
