Restricted Performance with codes etc.???
So my '00 decided it wanted to go into restricted performance mode and the dash says in addition to restricted Performance: handbrake on, transmission fault and the lights for the transmission selector are dim and kind of flicker.
My OBD2 reader that won't let me scroll through the codes says coil pack faulty.
It says there are thre codes but I can't scroll through to read them.
Ideas?
Thanks
Eric

Weird thing is the car starts right up and runs smoothly for a second or two and then the Restricted Performance kicks in and it starts to run rough.
I figure something isn't right and a sensor is picking it up and triggering the RP mode.
Ideas?
Thanks

Yeah a dead coil like your scanner says creats a hard misfire. And since that is potentially damaging esp. To cats it will go into restricted performance. Dont overthink things. But around here not listing your codes is like telling a DR youre in pain but wanting he/she to guess where
Ok. I get the following codes:
P0355 ignition coil E primary/secondary circuit
Which coil is "E"? Or #5? It's been a while since I had the coil covers off. They aren't labeled are they
And these:
P0442
P1642
P1797
P1111
I'm going to google them but your expertise is appreciated.
Thanks
Eric

P0355 is Ignition coil (B1) primary / secondary circuit malfunction.
B1 (B bank is bank 2) bank 2 is the left hand side of the engine view from the driver seat, the 1 is cylinder 1 and is the the cylinder closest to the front of the vehicle near the radiator.
So B1 is the cylinder on the bank 2 and is cylinder number 1.
P0442 is EVAP (system) leak detected – small
P1642 is CAN circuit malfunction
P1797 is not a valid DTC code for 2000 Jaguar XJ... there is P1697
P1111 is System checks complete since last memory clear
DTC P1111 is logged in memory, all on-board diagnostic tests have been completed

That is a circuit fault for number five which is the drivers side front cylinder. I would swap 2 coils around and verify it moves with coil. If it doesnt check continuity between coil and ecu. Connectors fall apart at that age so check connectors and pins at coil closely. If wiring is fine you have a blown coil driver in ecu which can be sent off and repaired. If it moves, well there you go you need a new coil.
