We need pics, this is going to be good. Someone with both models at the same time to do a comparison.

All i got is some auction pics. I bought it sight unseen. It needs some TLC, it was rear ended, therefore my taillight post, but the price was right.

My wife is looking to move from her Disco sometime next year, so I am looking forward to your thoughts on the X350. She is thinking about moving away from British cars... ::shock::

Nice car but you've got some extensive paint and body work ahead. You will be way ahead if you can do this yourself. In that condition you should have been able to buy it at near salvage value. Good luck with the project.

Congrats! Not my cup of tea, but it's a nice car.

One thing that I would like to ask,......how do you plan to keep it rust free in IL? Trunk and bumper are not a problem to replace, but it looks like the rear quarter got crunched. I see only two possibilities there,....either do some straightening of the existing one (with fair amount of bondo!), or cutting it out, and welding a new piece. Bondo has a problem with moisture building up, drying and cracking(as I am sure you know), and welding is a different problem. All the cars I've seen welded, rusted from inside out (impossible to treat the back side of the weld) in Minnesota (similar weather to CHI).

I'm sure you considered the options, but I'd like to hear your plan on this. Maybe the body shops have some new tricks up their sleeves (it's been a long time since I dealt with one in the Midwest).

Aluminum. I didn't see the car yet so I'm not 100% sure how I'll tackle the repair, but I've fixed worse pretzels

I got the car running yesterday. It was sold at an auction as "doesn't run".

The fuse box behind the battery got crushed, so after some soldering I made it functional again.

adam- love your ability and enthusiasm to take on any task in front of you!

I would like an X308 2 door convertible when you have a chance. Don't think it's been done yet. Anywhere.

Thanks!

Here's an update as to how things are coming along. Aluminum is way trickier to work with than steel, but its coming out nicely

You can say that again, goes one way, doesn't like coming back.

There's a ton of posts on the UK forum about these cars rotting, also paint issues around the c post, door panels and all shuts where paint reacts.

I'm thinking about a 358 TT diesel for daily duties

Good luck with it!

I wish we had the diesels in the US.

Here's some updated pics since the last update. I actually wet sanded it today and I'm hoping to shoot epoxy sealer, base and clear tomorrow on the body.
