Default shock mounts prices ?

Hi all,

I want to replace my upper right front and upper left front shock mounts. The OEM parts are $390 each.
I have found URO parts on rockauto.com for $18.79 !
On partsgeek.com they go for $28
EBAY $50.
You get the point...

So simple question: How risky is it to buy those cheap parts as opposed to 'original' ones?

Thank you for your help!

I did the whole plate from URO via Rock Auto $20ish, they are just as good, if not better than the original due to current polymer/rubber technology.

KC, what "difference" did new shock mounts make? Were you having any vibration, and if so did it cure it?

The reason I ask is I have a slight vibration when I put my car in gear (absolutely no vibration in neutral) and was blaming the motor mounts causing a vibration to be felt when under load, but I wonder if my front shock mount rubbers are hard with age and could be the cause. I know that the front shock mounts should have little to do with a vibration when in gear but you know strange and elusive these things can be.

I had a very noticeable front end vibration mostly whilest driving, so much it would jar my center wood trim loose after a while. New mounts, shocks & it's gone. Mind you my mounts were bad off(shocks still had life), I mean so brittle they were partially disintegrated.

My shock mounts look okay, but for what they cost, I think I will replace them and see what it does.

Shock mounts generally cure "clunks" and help with sloppy handling. Shock mount induced "vibrations" would only occur while driving over bumping surfaces.

My shock mounts were crumbled gone and the car was still smooth up to 75 mph on smooth pavement but will clunk you out of the car of rough pavement.

I ordered the Rockauto Uros. Will install them this weekend.

Yes, I think you are right, and I think my strut mounts are probably fine, but, even though they look okay, I am assuming they are the originals, and so for $40 bucks I ordered a pair from Rock Auto.

Be careful there are 2 type out there, one type for the normal shocks, the other type for the CATS shocks (larger hole diameter).
I don't think the normal ones are so expensive, not even from Jaguar .

As I replaced mine, I ordered some Meyle Heavy Duty ones. Can't fault them - yet. Cost about €35/side.

When the after markets hit in 2015, I replaced the right side with Uro (lefts were out of stock) and Mehle left from Rock Auto. Fixed clunking on the left side over rough bumps immediately. Previously, I had renewed the originals with neoprene replacement inserts from Motorcar Ltd. but these were way too hard in the cold and never fixed the left side clunk. Uro and Meyles As good as originals for about 1/10 the price (USD) and super easy install.

I replaced the pads in my top shock mounts, bought them from BUMP RUBBER, .750" PUCK, RED | 5153 Series | RE Suspension | Bump Stops. The red ones (soft) are actually not very soft and are very similar to the original ones. They also have medium (white) which are pretty hard - bought these also for another car. The 0.75" fit straight except that I did not like how much they were squeezed during installation so I cut about 1/8" off to maintain the comfort of my Daimler Super V8.

How has this held up for you using the red pucks? Ive also got a super v8 - did you find cutting them a bit absolutely necessary? I might want to leave it all in there so when it collapses a bit over time it doesnt start clunking again
