Default Side Impact Sensor

Hey folks, still working some of the kinks out on the XJR. The air bag light is on solid, all the time. Took it to the dealer and had the ECM scanned ($125.00, are you kidding me?) They say it's the driver side impact sensor. Guy's mech that I bought the car from in Atlanta says they've changed it twice and that's not it. He is a little suspect in my mind now though as I had him do the upper tensioners before it was shipped out here and I had to redo the right cam cover gaskets to fix leaks in all 4 spark plug wells.

Anyway, anyone else have this problem and traced it to something else? I'm going to ebay a new sensor and put it in as it's not that expensive.

Thanks for any help and I'll post pics and results after I change it.

Thumbs down Still need help

Ok folks, changed the sensor with no fix. Airbag light is still on solid. Sorry for no pics. I was in a hurry. So, I'm thinking it must be the module behind the radio. Has anyone checked resistance on the sensors? I was thinking if I can find the pin outs to the sensor I can check it and the wiring all together.

Promise I'll post picks of removing the ski slope and module when I do this project.

I would guess it must be the wiring since the sensor was the fault and the fault still exists with the sensor replaced

Any idea where I can find the pin out sheet so I can check the wiring? The guys I bought thesensor from were nice enough to take it back and give me credit towards the controller. I will try and trace the wiring out and see if it's broken anywhere.

Hi
Here is a small 2 page PDF file I created from the 2001 XJ Electrical Guide PDF file (shows side impact sensors and wiring, also pin out info).
Increase zoom size to 125% in your PDF reader:

Default re: Air Bag light

I had the airbag light on my 1998 xjr . I have a launch scanner so plugged it in and it came up with passenger side mount airbag .So what i did i was disconnect passenger seat airbag and did a re read of codes. It now came up with Drivers side mount air bag ?

What i did then is put a resister across the wiring for passenger seat air bag at the same time connected drivers seat, this did not work

I then put resister in the drivers seat side mount wiring while removing resister from passenger side, i reconnected passenger wiring as it should be reconnected battery ,turned ignition on - NO LIGHT

I will be looking for a drives seat to replace mine.

The moral of the story is don,t always believe what the scanner tells you.. !

Default Calling all SRS Experts!

Hey folks, I thought I would highjack my own thread here. I am JPM50 and trying to get my password resolved, anyway a small bit of headway on the SRS drivers side impact code.

Picked up a new SRS controller ... R and R'd it this weekend. AB indicator came back on as before. Took the cat to the dealer today, same code as before. Tech was a super nice guy and let me watch/ask questions while he worked. Seems there is supposed to be 12 volts on two wires going to the sensor and the other one is ground as confirmed by Jim's PDF that he sent me.

Mine has 0v on CA61-20 and 5v on CA61-22 at the sensor.

I stopped the tech at this point because his clock is expensive.

So, Questions
1. Anyone run into this before?
2. Does the SRS have a fail safe on it where it won't deploy if the car is in park or not running while I probe the SRS module to see if it has the correct voltage coming out?
3. If the voltage coming out is not correct what else should I look for with the obvious exception being the voltage going into the SRS?

Thanks!
Jon
