Silent treatment from turn signals
I used to think the directional signal clicker sound was annoying until it went silent.
Now I am the geezer driving down the road with my signal on and here in south Florida it is just a matter of time before someone gets pissed and points a gun at me.
Is finding and replacing this clicker a big deal? I have been searching for the part and some directions but coming up less than certain on what/where it is.
Thanks for any clues on this - cheers.

The sound comes from a speaker in the steering column; same speaker chimes when you leave the keys in ignition and open the door; if that is silent too, then probably a wire to speaker that lost its connection. Take off the steering column trim and you can inspect/resolder as needed.
The clicker is mounted somewhere in the steering column.
You can see the little holes right under the right hand column switch.
Somewhere behind that plastic must be the clicker.
I would remove the lower part of the steering column and have a look...

I have had to replace both my 1992 XJ6 and my 1999 XJ8 speakers (not at the same time).
I found some old transistor radio speakers laying around that were close to the same diameter and used some washers to catch the edge of the speakers to mount them back in the column. It's not rocket science to get some speaker to 'sort-of-fit' and make noise!!! I would not pay $15 or $20 dollars at the dealer when the little speakers are cheap at radio shack or someplace like that!! Go to garage sale and get a cheap tiny radio for 50 cents and use that speaker!! (clock radio???)

Much appreciated guys - I will open her up and take a look. Hopefully just a loose wire..
Good thinking Bob, maybe I can rig a greeting card recorder to play Die Walkür when I begin my lane changes on I-75.

i was wondering what those holes in the steering column was...also the first time i heard the turn signal clicking i thought it was a grounding problem in the car, then i remembered that is what UK cabs sound like...
good luck
