Steering Column Tilt/Reach problem

Steering Column Tilt/Reach problem
Ever since I have owned by 2001 XJ8, the steering column tilt/reach has not worked properly. I do not recall that the reach function has ever worked, and the only way to adjust the tilt has been to "bump" the switch again and again to move the steering wheel in a series of short bursts. Holding the switch in one position would yield no movement. Now even the "bump" approach yields nothing. It seems unlikely that both the reach motor and the tilt motor would have gone bad - I am thinking instead that perhaps the switch is the problem. Anyone have any insight into this? Since the complete failure, I did hear a buzzing with the switch in auto position that seemed to be something trying to align the wheel in a memory position, but nothing moved then either. Motors or switch? THANKS

The column tilt and reach faults have been addressed many times.
Search the forum for answers. The X100, X300 and X308 all used the same basic parts.
I made a search and came up with this.
