Hello Jagfriends, we are still searching the main electrical mass cable or mass problem at my Jaguar x308 from 1998. The main problem for me and my friend who is searching for the Problem is, how we can search for it. How can we test where the problem is coming from. The computer display on the steering says electrical Problem, Gearbox etc and over the OBD 2 check there is no Problem. Batterie is new. And she is still not starting. The starter runs if we give batterie energy directly on the starter, but the car didn’t start. Any Idea? Or is there a special tool that we need to find the mass cable or general mass problem? On some Fotos in the web I see some cable from the engine to the Bonet. It looks like a mass cable and i didn’t have that on my car. Is this maybe nether Sery? Or is it not important for my Problem? Greetings Barry
I remember you asking before and I replied to you.
You should have used that same old post to write now again here on the forum, because then I could have checked, how you actually ended up at the current problem (I think there you told the story of who you arrived at the problem), plus, I could have easily checked, what I wrote to you before...
You are writing here about feeding the starter directly from the battery - if I understand this correctly - and you are wondering that the car does not start regardless of the starter motor working. Well, there is more to it that the starter motor, plus, I never heard before that someone fed the starter directly from the battery, and I do not know, if you do any damage like that.
As I do not know the history of the problem: Did you take things apart before your problem arose? Did you forget to reconnect a one or a few connectors? Did you forgot to reattach ground (earthing) strips to the body or is there corrosion on those?
Or is there any chance that you have water damage on the TCM (transmission control module)?
Yes, that links to the earlier thread, JagV8.
Jagman25: Did you make use of the various advises you received in response to your first post? If so, what further can you tell us now? What have you double-checked meanwhile?
Have you checked that the earth-straps are all connected and did you remove the earth-straps to check, if there is no corrosion between the earth-straps and the metal they are screwed onto?
And you mentioned in your initial posting that you used a cable from the rear battery minus and connecte4d it to the engine. I was not clear about if you could then actually start the engine with the engine fault on.
Also: In case you do have a problem with the proper contact from the battery minus to the engine...: Are you aware that "replacing" it temporarily with just a thin cable would be useless? How big a cable did you used to connect the battery minus in the back to the front (engine)? I am asking because not everyone would have a seriously THICK cable at hand to try that. And a thin cable would be unsuitable to get the Amperage thru to the starter motor to start the engine.
