Default Sunroof headliner

03 XJR - I did a search and found a lot of info on the sunroof operation and the sagging headliner, but I wasn't able to find anything that addressed my particular problem. With the sunroof on tilt, the headliner under the sunroof is sagging on the right hand side. It appears to have somehow come unhooked from the sunroof itself. I tried to push it back to the proper position, thought it might snap into place but no luck. Anyone have any ideas or advice? Is this a complicated fix? Could it perhaps be glued back in place?

Thanks

Default Sagging headliner

I have an 01 XJR that had the same problem. Go onto autobahn.com and look for saggy stoppers - very cheap alternative and work a treat.

Cheers

Thanks - I found saggy stoppers at "autobarn.net" I'm going to take a look later this morning, but I'm not sure this would work on the sunroof portion of the headliner. In my case, it seems the whole section has come loose and dropped down, it's not just the fabric sagging.

That's a problem with one of the arms displaced from the sunroof tilt and slide mechanism. You have to pull the headliner panle out, remove the outer sliding panel, and hope you can identify and correct the tilt/slide fault without having to replace one or both of them.

Thanks - When you say remove the "outer sliding panel", are you rererring to the metal sunroof itself?

Yup, headliner panel pulls out the back when in tilt position, then get inside and remove three torx screws each side and remove outer (painted) sliding panel. Have a look, compare both sides, have a beer, have another look, and figure it out.

No problem. You'll see what I mean about the tilt and slide mechanisms, I could write 'till my fingers bleed and it wouldn't make them easy to understand.

On mine, one of the pins that hold the liner on the springs has broken. I'm assuming I will need a new liner panel? I'll see if I can find another fix, but that appears to be the correct way to fix it.

yep, it's a miserable design and frequently fails. Funny, 'cause the the only thiing that ever failed on Series III was the roof motor or gear, and the only thing that failed on the XJ 40 was...well, nothing.

The added tilt feature inspired the creation of the very fragile tilt and slide mechanisms, and replacing them is alot more trouble than it should be.

Brit, at lest one of yours has a broken component on a tilt/ slide mechanism, or it would be tilting properly. Your fix is the best, no problem.

Super sport, I can help you with any of the parts if you plan on getting yours sorted out, PM me anytime. A picture to show the area of concern will save a thousand words.
