I need to replace the supercharger belt on my 2000 XJR and after searching around here and reading a few thread many people said that the Gates belt part no k080514 is a direct fit for the supercharger belt. I a believer in Gates products and trust the quality of them so I ordered that as it was more than half the price of the OEM belt. I went to install it tonight only to find it is significantly too long, so much so that I could slide the belt over the crank and the supercharger without moving the idler. Am I missing something or are there different belt sizes between different model years?
I believe so. Around crank, around tensioner, around SC pulley, under idler:
Oh wait, i see my mistake now, it is routed wrong., I went from the tensioner to the idler, it should from the tensioner to the SC pulley, then to the idler.
Thanks.
If your at the S/C belt install, that thing should be about ready to fire up! Let us know how it went.
It's so very close, I've just got the SC belt to put on and the radiator fan to reinstall both of which I'm going to do tonight, then I just need to fill the fluids and attempt to start it. Unfortunately I'm waiting on one coolant hose to arrive to replace one that broke, the one that goes from the coolant outlet pipe back to the overflow reservoir. Not having that hose is holding up refilling the coolant but that hose should arrive maybe as early as tomorrow but probably no later than Monday.
I'd also like to go out and get a few gallons of 100 octane gas to pour into the tank. I cant' remember if I put any fuel stabilizer in the tank for I thought I'd mix in a few gallons as an octane booster.
As for weather it fires up I give it about 50/50 odds it starts first time.
You said it’s been 3 years since it was taken apart. How much gas is in the tank? I’d opt to drain what you have out but I don’t know how long that stabilizer is good for. Does it tell you on the bottle? 100 octane unleaded isn’t bad either but I still wouldn’t chance it with old fuel.

It had about 3/4 of a tank in it and last night I added about 3 gallons of 100 octane so now it's close to full.
I don't know how long fuel stabilizer is good for and I don't have a bottle of it lying around, but 3 years is about the shelf life for gasoline.
How easy is draining the tank? I'm not sure I want to deal with that and with safely collecting and disposing of almost a full tank of gas.
So the last hose I was waiting for arrived yesterday, I installed that and filled it with fluids. Went to start her and she hesitated but then begin cranked over, eventually started, sputtered, but then ran on the next cranking. I pulled it out of the garage and let it idle but already I could tell something was wrong, there was a knocking at the low end just sitting there at idle. I think that the bottom end did not in fact survive the overheating that lead me to rebuilding the heads.
Update: So I did a compression test on the engine the number are as follows (from front cylinder to back): Driver's Side 120,125,130, 115 Pass Side: 125, 135, 135, 120. So the car has compression thats good, but all for spark plugs had carbon build up on them. These were brand new spark plugs and this was only from a few min of idling. Also I've got CELS for misfires P0300 P0305 P0307 and a pending P1000 as well as a transmission high temp warning that has thrown it into limp mode.
I'm slightly more optimistic given how the compression test turned out, but need to figure out why the spark plugs foul so quickly, which I'm assuming is the cause of the missing.
