Default supercharger powder coating project.. have questions

Good day to all

there is a hose leak under my SC and I am planning to remove it for hose replacement. I am thinking to powder coat the SC unit and performance some maintenance works.

before I am going to break the SC unit in pieces . i need to know if I can find all of the needed gaskets after the powder coating job.

also should I use the rebuild kit on it also.

You should consider high temp wrinkle paint. I used it on the valve covers on a 4.6 Ford DOHC and it looked sharp.

I'm in the same exact circumstances as you are with the SC rebuild and coating. Did you think of any other type of coating other than powder? I do not have a lot of experience here so let me know what you are looking to.

AFAIK, the SC does not use a gasket behind the nose-plate-to-housing. Instead it is a gasket maker type liquid applied. I guess the parts are so well toleranced and the oil thick enough that leakage is not an issue. The throttle body and the inlet manifold gaskets are all available from just about anywhere. I am working on a full list of part numbers for the coolant and heater hoses in a thread I started here - https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-farce-258547/

I may be able to post it tonight. If not it will be soon.

Vincent,
Anything new on the SC coating project? I'm hoping to have an update in the next few days on getting my SC rebuilt and coated.

I found another SC rebuild company and spoke with the boss-Jonathan . They seem to have a better price and Jon sounds like a very reasonable guy. the ONLY down side is (in my case) their time is all booked until late July which is near 2 more months to go and my SC is already out of the car.( I probably can not wait this long)

otherwise I would choose their service for sure. if you want to do you SC, plan the time advance.

I had the same exact conversation with Bond and decided to keep looking so I am not without a SC for so long. I called stiegemeier.com and they were crazy helpful and able to get the work done much sooner. Check them out and let them know I told you about them. They seem to be really good folks.

I ended up using the highspeed lab. I spoke with the office manager Alicia (I guess she is owner's wife also) . she said they would commit the rush turnover for me with an extra charge to get the whole thing done in 4 weeks.

I am choosing the top option..full rebuilding , replacing parts, CNC porting and powder coating...with extra rush charge. it is blowing out my original budget...but well...

Vincent,
What's the latest on your SC? I'd love to see it when you get it back.

I should be getting mine back in the next day or two. Rebuild, rotors recoated, housing and air chargers painted, and a cooling system for the front drive.

Here is one pic that I have on hand of the final product. I've added some extra abrasion protection to a few of the rigid coolant hoses. I also added a catch can between the part load and throttle body elbow vacuum port.

I've since taken it back apart to do some extra cleaning and I want to cover a few more hoses with the fabric heat shrink you can see here. It should end up being pretty neat.

Looking great! What are those lines on the top left in front of the coolant tank, fuel cooler?

That would be the catch can. See here -

I still have some work on the catch can lines to clean them up a bit but it is in working order as you see it here.

hey, buddy. nice work. I recalled we both started the SC project around the same time and you beat me by a mile ahead.

Most of my catch can install was based on 60Gunner's post seen here. - https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...er-mod-251077/

I bought the ADD W1 baffled can V3.3 and connected the inlet to the part load breather in the valve cover. One of the outlet ports is routed back to the intake elbow where the part load breather was originally connected to. I added check valves also sold by ADD W1. I'm a big fan of preventative maintenance so I covered just about everything with a fabric heat shrink material I found at cabletiesandmore. I haven't added the secondary vacuum pump yet but I do plan on it soon.

Stiegemeier rebuilt by SC and had the rotors recoated. They also did the paint job on the SC and air chargers. The front drive cooler is one of their products too.

All belts, gaskets, pipes, and hoses were replaced during this process; from the octopus to the coolant reservoir overflow, throttle body coolant hoses to coolant temp sender o-ring. I put together a list of most if not all the stuff I replaced here. -https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-xj8-xjr-x308-27/cooling-hoses-under-supercharger-152089/
