I'm replacing the suspension on my XJR and installed aftermarket bumpers. I just want to make sure everything looks correct before I bolt everything back in. My only concern is that the plastic part of the bumper is making contact with the metal frame. I know the plastic won't damage the metal, but could this contact ruin the bumpers over time? Will it be fine as is?
I don't know, if you have different names for those part in the US, but here they are called either "shock absorbers" or "dampers".
And the material of the grommets, you are worried about, is rubber, not plastic.
The fact that the rubber hits the metal suggests that those dampers are not designed for this Jag., and I am sure that there are countries, where using those would be illegal, but if you are sure that there are no legal concerns about that in the US, plus, if you are sure that apart from the "touch-condition" of rubber and wishbone everything else is functional and SAVE, then I do not see an issue with that touch-condition.
If the grommet is plastic (rather than rubber), it is even more critical in regards of "wear & tear" over time, i.e. you might see premature wear on the grommet.
[QUOTE=xjack;2855842]The white foam part should fit into metal "socket" then it won't touch anything and do its job which is protecting strut from junk, now it is exposed
whoops lol guess the wheel is coming back off I should just be able to force it through from the bottom correct.
P.s this was the answer I was looking for something seemed off!
Agreed. I used “Goop” brand adhesive to hold up in socket as wouldn’t stay without it.
What are the chances I should flip the white bumper to the wider side facing upward to fit more snug inside because there is no way I can push the rounded side that is facing upward right now through that hole or have it stay in place.

I’m thinking that’s not really a great idea… as they’re after market and not oem, that might be why the fit isn’t what it should be.
Do you still have the shocks you took out? If so, could you swap that piece for the one you took out and use it with the new boot?

I do but the rubber is brittle and they also if I'm not mistaken don't fit inside the hole up there either anymore when i removed them they were hanging like the after market ones but the cover is not as long.
i would rather shave some material from new foam to make it fit than use old one, it is protecting strut from fully compressing over potholes and old one won't do its job very well as it looks wasted
remove a bit material and use some glue to fix it in place
