I am having trouble with my driver's door control module (front door module). 2002 XJ8. I had some problems after driving in a bad rainstorm and it blew some fuses. I think all the fuses are good but I may have missed one.
Symptoms are:
First remote unlock (just driver's door) doe not work. Needs second push which unlocks all doors.
Fuel cap lock does not disengage
Using manual key to unlock door sets off alarm
I can only control drivers window with windows controls, but the individual window controls work fine
I unplugged and reconnected the front door module looking for water issues but it seemed clean.
The shop manual says when I am done reinstalling I need to "Synchronize ECM, KTM, BMP using PDU"
Is this necessary? How do I do this? Can I buy a PDU? Can a generic OBD tool work?
I appreciate any other hints or help.
First, fix the window seals.
When you unplugged the DDM, did you take something like a hair dryer and blow it out to get the moisture off any contacts? I would even bring it in the house for awhile and maybe put it in a bag of rice overnight....yes, just like a cell phone.
The fuel lock may not disengage because the signal to it may not be recognized as unlocked.
Do an "all down...all up" test....take your key with the doors closed, insert into your door lock, rotate it to the right and hold it there. You should get one of two functions, all lock with all windows rolling up or all unlock with all windows rolling down (I'm not home to verify the direction of this function). You keep the key barrel turned until either of these functions complete to be sure of operation. Once that function is complete, rotate it all the way to the left and hold it for the other activation to complete. On the unlock function, check your fuel cover to see if it unlocked as well.
Like Xalty said, it should be plug and play. I pulled mine out when I put in new speakers and door seals and was checking for unwanted items. I never had to reprogram anything upon reinstall, but be sure the lock down connector is seated well...it clamps in tight.
May seem obvious but have you tried a hard reset? I was messing with my doors a while ago, unplugged a module (with battery still connected) for testing wiring going to an actuator motor, on reconnection got some bizarre behavior with windows not all working together, or the driver's window only going down etc. Don't remember the details. Scratched my head for a bit, did a hard reset, everything was back to normal after.
