I’ve just sunk way too much into the cat, and would rather postpone replacing the coolant tank for a couple months.

but the light is driving me crazy.

I’ve read several posts about how the float fails, so I’m sure that’s it.

the light was constantly on for a good month before my heater hose went. I kept checking level, but it was never below the top lip.

I just want the stupid light off until I can afford the $120 better.

I bought a 2001 XJ8 with a wire tap across the sensor leads.


I removed the 'tap', repaired the wiring and replaced the reservoir.

 

Take a clean dowel or screwdriver and move the float up and down: it is sticking a creating the false signal. Assuming you have not broken a wire .. . .
