Default Is this the timing-chain kit to get ?

Hi all ,

This kit looks perfect , has anyone used this kit allready ?

JAGUAR V8 TIMING CHAIN/TENSIONER KIT XJ8/XK8/V8 S-TYPE - eBay, Jaguar, Car Parts, Vehicle Parts Accessories. (Eindtijd 10-mei-11 21:07:20 CEST)

The plastic on the metal guide rails is not glued fixed i am told , is that normal ?

Thanks !

That kit looks complete. The only other seals you may want to replace are where the VVT solenoids stick through the valve cover. I got just a secondary timing tensioner kit that included secondary chains with the master link. If you are doing it all though, that kit you have there is probably the way to go.

I cant comment on the construction of the guides.

These guides look like the same replacements I used on my '01 and they are working fine. The guides will not match your '99 originals, however, and you can find the older style on ebay if you would prefer an exact match. These have floating nylon or plastic guide surfaces and the older style is solid. The tensioners will match exactly.

The chains are an important thing to verify, as they went to a different chain at a point with more plates per link. I can't see from this picture to make sure.

There is a PDF floating around on this forum that shows a rebuild on a 99 (as I recall) and it uses the exact replacement parts. You will see the difference.

Thanks for the info guys !

Jaginblack , the discription states that the chain guides are modified to fit the x308 engine , so it hopefully
will ...

I just bought the kit and the seller asked my engine number for the right gaskets , i hope he is aware there
is a difference between the '99 and newer type chain guides .
I think i will ask him that right now :-)

Other than listening to the ticking sound, The only other way to check is to have a visual of these tensioners and you migh as well change the chains if the tech is going in there. I have 93K on my clock so what should I do if I don't hear any ticking

The straight primary chain guides look like the inverted tooth design from the 2002MY onward. They are narrow and very different from the roller chain guides. Be sure to get the correct guides.
