Default TIRES

The age old question (along with oil!), what brand/type etc., I'm about to fit new tires, and was going to go with V-rated, not so much because I want to drive around at 150mph+ but for their handling qualities as Jags have reputation of requiring "good" tires to avoid handling/suspension issues. And having said that one of my prime concerns is road noise and smoothness. So maybe an H rated 130mph tire will do? I may have to go that route because there doesn't seem to be very many V-rated tires in the stock 225/60/16 size.

I was going to try the Hankook Kinergy Platinum, as they boasted such a quiet ride, but discovered it is discontinued.

Pirelli Cinturato p7s (h-rated)
Bridgestone Potenza RE97 A/S (h-rated)
Michelin Premier A/S (h-rated)
Michelin Primacy MXV4 (h-rated)
Goodyear Eagle RSA (v-rated)
Goodyear Assurance Comfotred Touring (h-rated)

Any advice from personal experience?
All input appreciated.

Tire opinions abound on here, and they are a fun read. I would only give you practical/personal experience and you can decide what to do with it.

I put the Michelin Premier A/S H-rated on the 2001 XJ8 I used to own. Absolutely no complaints from myself or the next owner. I don't know that I would ever drive a non-supercharged X308 in such a way that I would need V rated tires.

I do have V rated tires (also Michelins) on my XJR now but, although that's also an X308, it's really a different car when it comes to tires, in my opinion.

Thanks for your input Harvest, the Michelin Premiers were high on my list.

I'm pondering between them and the Pirelli Cinturato P7s in H or V ratings (only $2.00 difference between h & v).

The Pirellis are considerably cheaper than the Michelins, $108 vs $144, and I read good reports about them.

On my first X308, I had lousy service out of Pirelli's (6000), Michelin Pilots were much better, nearly no wear after three times the mileage as the Pirellis. Quieter too and better wet traction. Both V rated

That said, I had wonderful luck with Coopers on my last Jag. Wife's Maxima had even better service and handling with Firestones at half the price. V rated.

I know that tire selection produces a myriad of results, but experiences of others are at least helpful in making a decision.

I decided to go with the Pirelli Cinturato P7s over the Michelin Premiers mainly on price, maybe I will live to regret the parsimony. They will be fitted next week some time at my local Americas Tire.

The original Pirelli tires had stronger sidewalls so the inflation could be lowered and still provide handling/safety -- summer only and NLA. They were expensive.

Some the VDB's came in with an odd mix ... All mine had the typical summer only Pirelli.

You loose a lot on these cars putting all season tires on them. I don't like Michelin tires on them due to the hard rubber and sidewalls. Most of my friends are using the Continental or sticking with Pirelli. I tried Continentals on my run around R .. decent.

Yokohama Advan NEOVA AD08r. No complaints and plenty of handling. They look interesting on the XJR as well lol
