Default Transmission cooler line connector size?

Does anyone know the the size of the transmission cooler line connectors for the flow/return radiator connections?

For reasons described in this post, I'm installing an external transmission oil cooler to help rule out the [new] radiator as a cause for the overheating transmission oil, I'd rather use a hard line to barb adapter than to cut these lines (so I can reconnect them to the radiator when I've isolated the problem).

This is not mine (otherwise I'd be able figure out the size), but just

If you have xj8 then this will work for you if you can find 1/2 barb better

Do you think the length of the shank on the original connector will fit into the adapter?

Yes it will fit properly however you may need PTFE tape just in case and I believe you must go with 1/2 barb and half hose it will reduce pressure but I'm not sure if that adapter will come in 1/2 barb . Also use proper transmission hose fuel line will work for some time but it will degrade over time
I have seen some of your post here n there I think you have good experience and know what you're doing

I couldn't find any information on the size of the female side of the adaptor, and the hose is still connected to the radiator so I didn't want to disconnect it unless I had to!

I assume you've had to do something like this in past?

Thank you.

Yup I like to work on my car as it's normal car not a luxury car honestly so the lower transmission hose thread was stripped and I had to use male m18.1.5 with 1/2 barb and connect that to the transmission hose I used transmission hose and clamps working fine and I run k@n filter rather than the plastic air box also motor craft spark plugs working fine
Thinking out of the box my friend

Excellent, sounds like you're on top of things too!

I also treat my car as a daily, I don't have to commute to/from work so it doesn't get too many kms/miles on the clock - it's just nice to jump and drive ;-)

Thanks again for the info, much appreciated.

Should be AN-8. If you cut at the upper line at radiator it is real easy.AN-8 is the size of my external cooler fittings. I cut the top line going into rad and secured those tube to hose connections with small pinch type clamps that are the same as cv joint clamps. Pinch and the lock together with tangs. No problems ever for leaks. If i find the pic i took i will post

Hi Scott, thanks for your comment. I don't want to cut the original lines, this is just a troubleshooting process (cheaper than swapping out the radiator or dropping the tranny), I was looking at a female (to existing connector) to barb (external trans oil cooler) to help identify where the problem lies.

@Silverjag0 says the female connector is a M18 x1.5, are you saying it's an AN8?

I personally can confirm that m18x1.5 fit the transmission cooler with no problem but it's little bit taller than the cooler thread that's why I used PTFE on the car I'm not metric expert I don't know if AN8 fitting will fit unless he can confirm .

Here's a picture for the cooler disassembled from the radiator and this m18x1.5 oxygen sensor plug it fit fine but it's little bit taller than the cooler thread the one I have with barb on the car with PTFE tape doesn't leak also .
I hope this helps
