Default WTB Pro-M MAF calibrated for our cars

Pro-M does not seem to support us anymore. If anyone has one of their MAFs from back in the day that's calibrated to work with an earlier 97-99 X308 XJR I would love to buy it.

Figured it couldn't hurt to throw this out there.

Waterdragon was the last one I knew who was using one of these, he was running 10's. But he sold that Jag, though if you look up some of his posts on it, there were details of the wiring and such. Couldn't hurt to look.

Yeah, I seem to recall from memory just one of the forum members burned that bridge for all of us. Fortunately that was after I got mine in 2020. I don’t think there’s a time slip on dragons car running a 10. I think a mid to high 11 though. It’s been a minute since I came across that post and I’m too lazy to fact check myself at the time being. 😂

I have one, probably one of the last ones they made for a Jag a couple of years ago. The owner told me he had a lot of issues with Jag owners and stopped offering them because of the high rate of issues. He made me one with the condition that I agreed that it was sold as is. I ran it for about a year and it ALWAYS ran rich. I finally removed it last summer and went back to the stock MAF. It is not a plug and play offering you also need to add a temp sensor as the sensor built into their MAF does not work with our cars and obviously the plugs are different so there is a little cutting and soldering involved.

If you call Pro-M and ask very nicley they may make you one with the condition that there is no after the sale support.

Modifications like this always remind me of my own mindset
when boring and stroking, triple angle valves and solid lifter
cams were priorities. These days, I am satisfied with the
performance as it is.

I also got one a few years ago, the calibration is wrong at the low end air flows - I tweaked mine with an Arduino and now it's close enough. So even if they deign to send you one, it might not be ideal. I'm guessing that either they never got a good calibration, or got mixed up and started using a different one. Hence the complaints and the policy to tell AJ26/27 Jag owners to pound sand, and they clearly don't need or want the business.

(I have pulled the calibration curve from the ECM for the AJ27 XKR 2002 firmware version, but I've no idea if the MAF is the same as the AJ26 XJR. If it was, and it probably isn't, you could ask them for a custom calibration and see if they play ball - I doubt they would though, especially if Jaguars were mentioned. And then it might not be correct, and I undoubtedly would be forced to adopt a policy of provided 'as is', no support, etc. etc. )

I simply did a Search... 92mm waterdragon (though properly spelled WaterDragon) and came up with these.
So the 10's are for his 0-100 times, not drag time as it somewhat pertained. Hey, it's been a few years since I'd read his stuff and he bragged in a lot of threads. But, here's a list of most of the postings on the 92mm and on the 117mm.

Here's where avos challenged him on some of his stuff...if you don't know avos, he's the premiere builder for the KB SC kits. His knowledge is not to be doubted.

What perfect timing for this subject! My MAF started acting up back in March, so I decided to use that as an excuse to get a Pro-M. After perusing their website, I opted for the 80mm (3-inch), but not the tube. I got THIS one. I ordered it specifying 2002 Jaguar XJR, supercharged, stock injectors and ECU. It arrived but I put it on the bench cause I had some home improvement stuff to do during the summer. And, I was waiting for the arrival of another piece to add to my hot rodding. That would be the KB kit that JagSTR2004 posted a few weeks ago; click HERE if you haven't seen the thread. It's now on the way to my garage.

So, at the beginning of this month it was time to fit the Pro-M. I opened the box and there wasn't a data transfer sheet, or a pin out diagram; just the MAF and air cleaner. I had done enough research to figure out the pin out, and A2b helped out by sending a picture of his wiring for the 92mm and also a connector to the OEM MAF harness. I got the Pro-M situated, wired it up, then turned the car on. Within 10 seconds of the computer doing the system check, I had a code (P0102 -Low MAF Input) and Restricted performance flashing. The same thing as Chirpy describes above. Got out the multimeter and scanners to see what was going on and the Pro-M had .04V from the signal wire; the OEM had .7V. This is with key-on-engine-off, or a new term I learned - the Sigma Voltage. I emailed support @Pro-M, that was three weeks ago, and submitted a message on their "Contact us" page two weeks ago. Haven't even heard "Go pound sand" from them. Yesterday, I decided to do a little testing. I had the OEM MAF on and I checked the signal voltage with the engine running. At idle it was 1.4V and at 2000rpm it was 1.68V. The scanner I was using didn't show the air flow rate (I'm working on that with Autel.) I hooked up my Innova scanner to get the flow rate, but that is in lb/hr, which was 1.7, but converting that to gpm is a little tough. I then fitted the Pro-M and started the engine. I had to hit the pedal to keep it running, got it up to around 2,000 rpm and the MAF signal never went above 1.3V, and when I let off the pedal, the voltage went back down quickly and the engine died.

At this point, I don't know if I want to communicate with Pro-M or ask Chirpy if he wants to mess with my Pro-M.

A few weeks after I posted the above, I decided to order a recalibration for the Pro-M. When I sent it, I included a note requesting the AJ27S tune and included one of avos's calibration data sheets that I snagged off the X100 forum, and asked that they get the tune as close as possible to that. I got a call from them about a week after sending it off and had a nice conversation with "Jeff." He stated that the MAF has the AJ27S tune and I told him pretty much what I said above; that the voltage with key-on-engine-off was at .04V, the OEM MAF was at .7V, and that I got a DTC saying MAF LOW VOLTAGE with Restricted Performance during the system check. The conversation ended with Jeff saying, "We'll see what we can do." About five hours later I got an email stating, "We were able to match the meter to the data sheet provided." It arrived back home the following week. Installed it and turned the key on; no codes or RP. Started the engine and everything was normal through warm up. Took the car for a spin and the butt dyno says +10; couldn't tell if it was HP or torque, but since that was accelerating from a stop sign I'm going to say torque. Hooked up the scanner and the fuel trims were really good; consistent with the Denso.

So, Prom-M will still sell a MAF to Jag owners. If you want one, you can try ordering the custom calibration on the order form. I know avos did this with his TS kits, but I don't know what they'll do now. Or just order the meter and if the KOEO system check says the MAF voltage is too low, order the recalibration for an extra buck and a quarter. In the end, it was worth it. Below is the data sheet.

If you do decide to order one, get the 6-pin, 4-wire connector. Mine came with four pins in the six pin connector, but it doesn't have an internal IAT sensor. I believe that the tube style comes with an internal IAT, but it's not compatible with our ECMs; several threads in the forums discuss this. A2b turned me on to a couple of tricks for fitting the MAF: a good IAT sensor is a GM25036751. It's working fine. Then he gave me a link to a connector that fits the Denso. It's an extension for some Lexus models and has male and female 5-wire connectors. All you have to do is make the harness and it will plug into the OEM MAF connector. Click HERE

Wow this is great news! Thank you for doing the legwork on this. I will have to give them a call and see if I can get a hold of Jeff. Hopefully if I can reference this information he may be able to easily set me up with the same calibration in a 92mm unit. Thank you!

To be clear, was the data shown above all you had to provide them?

man, unless the stock maf is pegging, it seems crazy to me to pay nearly $500 for this

Those butt dyno's have a thrill meter built in and are fairly inexpensive as well, ...problem is you gotta carry it wherever you go.

Yes, that was the only hard data I had. During our phone call, I described the readings that I mentioned in the first post above. I did get the Autel scanner straightened out, so now I can see both flow and voltage on that one. And, this is just my perception from all the reading that I've done and the comments on here that I've read, I would throw the money down before calling. So, order the MAF and request the custom calibration and see what response you get. You know the hold saying about "Money talks and Bullshit walks." It worked for me.

It was. And, I've always been a "hot rodder."

Yea, but I think I need a new one; the one I have is cracked.

You only need to worry when it starts leaking.

I agree with this statement. The primary reason I went with a Pro M 92 is to open the engine up to more power potential. It’s kinda like when you modify any engine really and you know at some point you’re going to need to feed it more fuel. What do you do? You start by upgrading the fuel pump. I knew I was going to put a smaller blower pulley on and an oversized harmonic balancer for more boost. Having a 3.5” MAF (and 3.5” intake tube) with very little air resistance inside the MAF means the blower has to work less due to less air restriction. However, I know that there are many, many other restrictions between the air filter and exhaust tips which I won’t get into.

Seems like a lot of work for very little gain....however.. I remember
a time when that was VERY important.

So far it's holding up, but I'll be 71 shortly, so ...

Yea, I agree with all of this. If I had left everything stock, I would have just put in an OEM MAF. But, as you can see below, and in my posts above, I haven't. For QC and Randy, I have a 2.1 KB kit sitting in the garage waiting to be installed; still gathering some parts. But, I'll still have the OEM TB on there until I figure out something else.
