Default Transmission Troubles

So I pulled my transmission and replaced the A-drum and the associated o-rings etc. You can see the whole process on my other thread here:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...d-again-61537/
I got the transmission back in the car and all seemed well. Topped it up with fluid and ran it through the gears using the fill procedure. It engaged in gear and I moved it forward and backward. I decided to take it around the block and only traveled a bit before the trans slipped and then would not go into any gear. Had to push the car back home, luckily down a small hill. Jacked it back up again and checked the fluid. While running I pulled the fill/check plug and fluid ran out, had an empty liter bottle under it and it filled it about half way up. Also noticed a muffled rattling sound seeming to be coming from the torque converter/ trans oil pump area. I am just guessing at this point, that it might be a torque converter problem. I only replaced the pressure regulator valve in the the valve body and not the body itself. Sounds like I may have to do that as well while I have it apart again. Would love to hear if anyone else has had torque converter issues, or oil pump issues.

Well an update, I talked to Ericksson Industries and they told me that most likely I had the torque converter off when I installed it and it broke the oil pump gear. So with that news, I decided to pull the transmission again. Sure enough they were spot on, I had sheared off the two spots on the oil pump gear.

Here is the trans oil pump pulled apart. The gear in the center is the part that broke.

This is the other part of the oil pump. Everything here looks good.

This is a close up of where the gear sheared off.

This is the torque converter where it mates to the gear to drive the pump.

Installation of the torque converter fully seated into the two notches before you try to bolt up to the engine. Time consuming mistake made. Ericksson said that they can get me the gear to replace it, but if I would have ensured the torque converter was fully seated the first time I would be driving around now instead of taking the trans out again. Live and learn. I am going to take the opportunity to go ahead and also replace the valve body part while I have the trans out again and drained. I would rather not take it out again, although I am getting pretty good at it now... haha...

Hi
I am glad that Eriksson Industries is helping you. They rebuilt our 2001 XJ8 transmission last year. Real professionals that have local and state reputation of having excellent and outstanding workmenship.

My son has been in auto industry for over 25 years. He commented that it was the best place in the state to have our transmission rebuilt.

Yea Vector, it was daunting at first but really its just a mechanical device with just a lot of parts. Thanks Jim for the recommendation, Ericksson was extremely helpful. Talked to a fella named Brad and he was able to help me diagnose my issue. I will be ordering my new parts tomorrow from them and hopefully be back on the road again soon.
