Default Vibration / Noise in P and N

Hello there

Yesterday i noticed that the car makes vibrating noises when started up in Park.

The noise is periodic and sounds like scrabing or more like something is loose through wear. I cant locate the noise that good but it sounds like if it comes from
the gear box or drive shaft, i dont think it comes from the engine.

The sound becomes more quiet in Drive, Reverse, 4, 3, 2. Driving is normal and
the gear box works fine.

The sound starts again at Park and Neutral.

What could it be?

Have you checked your motor and trans mounts?

It sounds like fluid may be low or filter may be dirty. Being it does it when the transmission is not engaged, thus a little higher rpm's.

The gear engages normally, no delay. Wouldnt that be a sympton against low fluid?
There are no error codes yet.

A friend of mine suspected the rag joint or the cardan shaft center bearing.

I wouldn't say not to check what your friend suggested, it never hurts to do suspect/preventative checks. Check your fill plug on the side of the unit and see if you can dip your pinky in the sample the fluid and smell it. You shouldn't get an error code except from an absolute sensor fault. From the aspect of any engineered piece, when it is under load and is quiet, then when load is removed and you get noise, then something isn't either being properly lubricated (possible dirty filter?) or something is worn and failing. Don't be afraid to go by a respectable transmission shop and ask them to listen to it. But in any case, to keep running it isn't going to make it go away.

I brought the Jaguar to a Transmission Workshop. Bad News: Gearbox Failure because of broken bearings and a snapped Gear tooth.

I have attached some photos. A complete Revision was needed.

The shop did a total rebuild of the transmission. Funny thing is, it doesnt run differently than before but the noise is gone.
