Default Vvt service?

My 98 VDP has a ticking that disappears when the engine warms or when I rev the car. Had the tensioners checked are are fine. Read on the board to use a heavier oil because of the VVT sticks.

Is there any parts to service or clean on the VVT soleniod.

Thanks in advance.

I would not think it was the VVT solenoid that was ticking, but rather the vvt unit itself. You could have a look when yo had it apart to check the tensioners.

Mine were noisy when I used 5W-30 Mobil One and are silent with the 15W-40 that I have in there now.

I heard from a local mechanic to replace the seals on the VVT valve where it goes into the center of the sprocket hub. From what I remember it was a plastic split ring.

I'm going to change mine soon as the weather is getting colder here and my next oil change will put me back in the thinner stuff.
