Default Warning Lights XJ8 2001

Just today brought a 2001 XJ8 lovely. Garage said there are no warning lights on the dash, but when collected there was. They are willing to sort it perhaps after a few days use. I have taken two photos. Apart from this, the Jaguar drives like new.

Please help and thank you in advance/\.

Welcome to the forums Joe,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X308 forum. This is the place to post questions about your model.

The vendor is correct about the ABS warning light and the Trac/ASC messages. The vehicle is safe to drive and it is likely to be a wheel sensor fault. It could also be a partially discharged or failing battery.

Presumably the seat belt warning light was only illuminated when the belt was NOT fastened? If it remained lit when the belt was fastenedt, there is a problem with the restraint system which is potentially dangerous.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Practically every X308 suffers this, sooner or later. It is better to do an OBD scan to establish where exactly the trouble is instead of going around all of the wheel sensors. And it may not be a wheel sensor. A probably more common cause of the trouble are two solders inside the ABS computer, on the pins where the ABS motor is plugged in. The solders deteriorate/crack over time and the ABS motor gets intermittent power. In such a case, re-soldering these pins solves the problem.

The said repair involves removal of the ABS computer (the black box), opening it up and doing the re-solder. As it is often very difficult to open the ABS box (the lid is glued in addition to being clamped-on with some small circlips), cutting the corner of the box or cutting a hole (see pic) is an easier way. The solders to be repaired are marked by yellow lines. Cutting the corner or a hole has to be done very carefully in order not to damage the electronics below.
