When you changed the ABS sensor, did you check/clean the toothed reluctor ring as well...?

Yes I removed both drive shalfts from the vehicle and inspected both reluctor rings both are intact and clean I have replaced the battery my next move is to check all the abs loom from under the back seat for complete continuity

Have you charged this new battery? Typically, new batteries are not fully charged when purchased.

These cars are very sensitive to low prestart voltage. No guarantees this is the problem, but it’s free and easy to rule out.

Hi yes the battery is charged reading high on the battery volt tester
I am going to check the rear ABS wiring looms with a muilty meter I have taken out the rear seat so far the rear ABS loom looks OK my 2001 S type has 1 large muilty plug clipped on the rear subframe and loom from that plug goes inside the car under the back seat my next step I think is to check the abs wires for the o/s/r abs/speed sensor for continuity hope this gives me the answer

Regards Glenn

I just replied to this same issue on another thread. A pretty common problem and if I were a gambling man I'd give you 4 to 1 it is the ABS module.
My 2002 XJ8 had it and I fixed for about $55 and a couple hours work.
Here is a YouTube video

I removed the module myself. I did not disconnect the brake lines because you can work the module free without disconnecting the brake lines. Then I shipped the module to a repair shop in the LA area that will fix the module and send your same module back. $45 plus $10 for shipping. Done end-to-end in about 10 days. I found them on eBay.
