Well my 2 AM whiskey fueled light adventure only had one casualty the left rear courtesy fixture/LNA5360AC was decimated. Luckily I found one on E-Bay for pennies !

King Charles If you want a design for a simple and elegant and cheap DIY resolution for a fully functional tail light for a lamp out let me know . I think I nailed it in a different electrical approach . Something like this with a darlington pair switch but as a parallel current path :

Finally found a 8J double-five in the US eqarlier this month, and the owner (a forum member on the XK8 side) was happy to let it go cheap.
After receiving, cleaning, and repairing some of the finish, it looked half decent for a spare, and this morning had a tire fitted to it.
Finally able to sell the 5 VDP rims.

Is the a recommended washer fluid? The fluid my XJR came with was clear and looked like it may have had some alcohol in it. It seems to work better than the "Blue Stuff" that comes in the gallon bottles.

I use water and a squirt of dishwasher soap in all my cars my whole life, always worked (as long as you are not in freezing conditions).

Fitted a small fire extinguisher in the trunk.
I know this will not beat a full raging car fire, but it might one day help to prevent a small one from growing.

Default My XJR

Well - I finally attacked, and completed, the removal, cutting open, repair, and replacing of my ABS module.

No Trac Control, No ASC, No ABS fault now completely fixed.

Thanks to this forum I got it all done in about 2 1/2 hours (2 hours to get it out - 30 minutes to put it back). All bent brake lines restored to correct positions, clips fixed, and now drives beautifully with zero dash error messages.

Couldn't have done it without the assistance of (and his tools) the daughter's fiancé, who turned up at the right time, then went and got some tools from his workshop......

All and all - very empowering!

Lyndon

I've spent much of the last fortnight driving my X308 on a daily basis whilst I was off over the Christmas period, but this morning I switched back to the biffabout fiesta and Jessie Jag will resume her occasional status.

I'd love to drive the Jag everyday but where I work is in the middle of the docks area where the air is thick with pollution from scrap yards, factories and traffic. The area where my depot is located is a busy industrial area where parking is difficult and the 16 foot Jaguar would get damaged if I were able to find a space she'd fit into. But it makes it even more special on the occasions I do get to drive the Jag, it really makes me appreciate how special these cars are.

Bored .. so made some under-bonnet lights.
Still need to wire things up, and install the switch, but that is for an other year

Purchased a OE interior mirror as I had the dreaded reducing gel, looked on Utube to see how to replace it, maybe the arthritis is getting to me but I could not seem to assert sufficient pressure to twist it off the screen, Is this the way to remove it correctly or is there a different method?

There is no twisting involved, and you need to take it very careful, as you don't want to crack your window.
The mirror just slides into the frame, and is held by 2 little pressure clips.
When I first removed my old one, I sprayed some penetration oil around, just to be sure.
Then used two small wooden blocks, one to held against the mirror slider, one to knock it out of the clips.
Some are tighter then others, but if you take it carefully, there is nothing much you can do wrong, just start gentle, then increase the force.

EDIT: Here is post with pictures on the subject from the XK8 forum:

Headed out to purchase a soldering iron to try my hand @ putting resistors on these tiny LEDs. My vision's a bit rough due to a recent bout w/ recurrent corneal erosion, that's basically when your eye gets so dry that the cornea sticks to the lid & rips off repeatedly lol.

I think I can pull it off w/ my trusty magnifying glass, we shall see (or maybe attempt to see lol).

Yesterday I washed, aqua waxed and cleaned inside the car. Then I put her in the corner, overinflated the tyres and put a little dehumidifier box inside. I then put her cover on and locked her up. She won't be moving for a few weeks because I'm going to be pretty busy at work and I'll be busy with some house related tasks on the next few weekends.

Eric, you should do a "How To" thread on your bonnet lights, I imagine a few people may be interested in some.

Edit :

Note to self, do not work with brittle plastic fixtures in 18 degree FH temps lol.

Sold my Vanden Plas rims, a happy new owner for his excellent looking X300, and freeing up some funds for the XJ-S (yes ... I am trying to think in funds and expenses now ...).

My trunk button & keyhole are both frozen w/ my battery tender attached lol. Have to get this sorted to go driving in the winter wonderland that rarely graces us here in coastal N.C.
