What were they thinking? And someone will pay $6000 for that monstrosity?

Dabbled in the black magic of auto transmission hydraulic services, installed the Transgo kit and Sonnax overlap bushings for the 722.6 transmission. Trying to fix some hard shifting while fluid is cold.
All went well enough, until the end of the day where the corner of the trans pan seal rolled on reinstall without me noticing, and it promptly puked a bunch of new trans fluid onto the driveway my landlord recently re-blacktopped. Then in a daze after that, I well overfilled the trans, resulting in some weird noises and smells after being started, and a bunch of fluid forced out past the gasket again. At least this time I had learned and put some cardboard+drain pan under the trans. Drained a bunch of fluid, cleaned things up a bit, and it seems to go into drive and reverse OK. Didn't get any further than that, just cleaned up for the day, and left the cardboard and pan under the car to see if it'll hold overnight. Must be time for a vacation or something, can't seem to think clearly these days.

I cleaned the XJR & Boxster. Here ... the XJR forms a beautiful backdrop and contrasting complement

From powerful elegant luxury to the ultimate mountain twisty driver. The contrast is extremely enjoyable!
to a completely different kind of machine. Love them both!

Nilanium,

Let me know how the shifting went after you’ve driven it a bit. Did you have an actual problem and that’s why you put both of those in or were you just wanting a firmer shift? I’m getting both of those kits as well as the blue top solenoids for mine soon.

Harsh shifting, more frequently when cold, between 1-2, sometimes 2-3, and sometimes 4-5. Also the "shutter" noise when idling and sport mode is off, as someone mentioned in a recent transmission thread. If anything I'm looking more for smoother shifting than firmer shifting. We'll see how it goes. The shutter noise issue seems like it may be solved, but I'm now short on both fluid and time, so it may take me some time to get it to the point of thorough driving time.

DMV,bureaucracies & shenanigans have rendered my beloved X308 not legal to drive. Registration was up for renewal in Sept. so I attempted to do so online & was given an error to check w/ local branch in person. This has never happened before with any of my vehicles.

I hit the local agency w/ all my paperwork clipped in order & ready(mandatory masked as well lol). Lady runs my license & tells me I have a "registration customer stop" that stems from an alcohol related offense/DWI. That means I can't register any vehicle in NC in my name until I clear up the "stop" w/ the clerk of court in the county of conviction ?!

So after numerous hours via phone & several days later I finally get a message rebuttal from DMV. They're saying I owe $100 for a "civil revocation fee" to the clerk of court where my DWI case was. That you can't pay online nor via the phone so I drive 4 hours to pay a measly $100, I'll spend that in gas lol. What irks me is this ticket is 15+ years old & my attorney assured me he paid all of my fees (he damn well should've for what he charged me). But this fee never surfaced as I renewed, titled several vehicles over the years ?! Sloppy *** bureaucracy strikes again (shakes head).

So I bust *** to get there before they close, pay the clerk, get duplicate receipts, bust *** to get back & hit the DMV office. Still a damn stop on my file ?! I call the clerk's office & they say it takes 24-48 hours to post on the DMV system ?! WTF , in this day & age, it is err should be instantaneous.

Fast forward : Exactly 8 weeks later & this still hasn't posted w/ the DMV's system ?! Can't register, renew tags, etc These clowns are making this messy so I have to spend more $ on an attorney to sort it out Grrr.

Luckily my Infiniti is registered until Aug. 2022 lol.

Deborah is ok…. My 2003 VDP is called “The Duchess”… far more appropriate in MHO.

Excluding the 2 main rotor bearings in the center of this charger, I replaced all the other bearings along with a new (VERY IMPORTANT) Eaton spring loaded coupler last week. Today I finally installed it on my daughters 98’ XJR (267k miles) and it turned out great! I cleaned it up a bit more and corrected the oil level after I set it on the engine.

This was my second charger I rebuilt and it’s not bad to do. The first one I rebuilt is currently on my car with a +1.5 lb SS pulley and an XFR crank pulley. It has about 20k miles on that charger. If you take your time with measurements installing the needle bearings and you have access to a hydraulic press, you can do it.

Took her out of the cover, bucket-less washed her & blew the cobwebs out w/ a few spirited laps around the block. She'd been sitting a month plus & on a tender so she fired right up. But I was greeted w/ a low coolant light & a rough idle then the P0332 Knock Sensor code w/ a brief "restricted performance" mode. It cleared on the next start & residual drive. But I think this helps me figure out where my elusive coolant leak's @ as I suspect the leak's in that vicinity & fouled the KS as she sat.

Gonna delve deeper this week. Hopefully DMV & my attorney gets their act together so I can renew my REG & get my baby back legal/road worthy lol.

After having wasted countless hours of my life trying to get chinese clones (first DAVINA, then VCM clone) to work with IDS and the x308, I FINALLY got a legit VCM and was able to communicate with the car's systems through it.

Massive props to Motorcarman for providing the correct versions of software, setup criteria, and answering my very specific questions on the process.

Now I can program a key, and debug weird issues if ever needed. Hoping that a lot of the codes it pulled were historical codes, not pending...

Default Saved some Money and Learned some Stuff

I bought a 2000 3.2 last week and got a £500 / $650 discount because of a host of electric problems - nothing major but all irritating. No Auto-Electrician in the area was interested in what could have turned into a long fault-finding job so I set to myself. So far:
  • Remote locking/unlocking fixed by cleaning the contacts on the remotes
  • BPM fuse blows fixed by removing 9 inches of burned and exposed wiring to the drivers sun visor light - that rectified the majority of the issues
  • Indentified source of issue with power to Rear Drivers Side Door Control Module issue and will fix this coming weekend
Total cost of repairs - £0 and a few hours of my time. I've also learned a lot about how the car all fits together so that time was an investment.

I couldn't have done it without the guidance of forum members, particularly @motorcarman. What a great source of help and support these forums are. I love this car and a great addition to my '83 XJ6.

Drove it to go pick up GT7. Car was getting so many compliments today, it was crazy. Absolutely enjoyed the drive. Sadly there were no period AMG's or M5's to play with along the way. And no, that puddle isn't my car, luckily!

Angry check engine light

I got a check engine light, so hooked up OBD and it said "lean bank 1" and "lean bank 2" no fault codes. I had removed the air intake and filter to repair the windscreen washer line. Decided to look where I had last had my hands, 2 hours later frustration level was near max, when I found a pushed back pin in the MAF connector. My question is why didn't I get an MAF fault code?
