What did you do to your X308 Today?

Picked it up from the shop, the rear end's finally silent albeit after several trips to different shops for one task, the rear wheel bearings. The alignment's a little off now the bearings are tight. The tech said the guys' whom supposedly did the 1st bearing jobs forgot to install the shims ?! Total ineptitude rendered me paying twice for the same job. Now it's onto rims, tires & alignment still on the fence between Pentas or waiting for asteroids to surface.

Indeed it's amazing how much rear end noise those bearings accounted for, it's really serene back there now lol. Just perturbs me that a shop would botch the repair then go on to phantom diagnosing to save face over the botched repair. In all I paid for that repair twice. Being I used cash @ the problematic shop I have minimum recourse like a charge back/dispute etc. I'll take it as a lesson learned to never again use that shop for anything.

I'm currently away on a week long training course with my work, I've been here since Sunday. Because it's work related I've had to use a company vehicle to travel down to this training centre, which is 230 miles from my home. The car in question is a 1.6 litre BMW 1 series with a manual gearbox, it is a miserable driving experience. Bad seats, poor cabin layout and cramped. Meanwhile my lovely Jaguar is sat in the company car park waiting for me to return, I really miss her! I'm looking forward to Saturday morning when I get my own car back! Saturday afternoon I'm going to be carrying out some work on the Jag as I continue to slowly get ready for the big trip to Belgium at Christmas.

Today I finished installing the 3.2 steel lined engine replacement for the knackered Nikasil one. Started first turn of the key, took it for a test drive, and a bonus was to find that my previous prop-shaft fix had also worked and the 50 to 70 mph rumble had disappeared as well. What a great day

Yeah, with thanks to you as much as to anyone else CK, that prop-shaft of mine has been mentioned so many times, in so many different threads!! I've promised to do a full write up on everything I did in an attempt to cure that 50/70 rumble, only to find the obvious problem was starring me in the face all the time. Correct orientation of the couplings and balance, not many realise (or at least fail to mention) the orientation of the couplings is vital! Anyway, that's all for a different thread. Thanks for your help CK.

Rear End Update :
Short lived victory lol. The noise is back on turns if I accelerate, every shop has diagnosed the rear wheel bearings & they've been done twice as the 1st job forgot the shims/adjusters. Not sure what else I can do, but this is likely the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Almost $2K in bearing jobs & I'm still with the same problem.
The X308 era may be ending @ the KC residence lol.

I bought mine some competition. Well, not really any comparison, but I bought an ex's 85 Cutlass from a guy local that ended up with it. Long story short, when her and I moved to FL, something went on it, we had no time, it was put in storage, and subsequently auctioned off after we couldn't keep it up. Turns out a guy local got it, parked it in his garage and never touched it and now wants the space. Still some logistics to sort out but it's getting delivered tomorrow. Will be nice to work on a set of wheels without seventy-three electronic brains that are trying to interrupt my driving pleasure!

If you have too much time ... embarking on my headrest mission ...
The Captain's seats I bought came with their own, wider headrests, and with an embroidered "D" (Daimler) on them.
Unfortunately, one of them was ripped in the back, so I am using my original VDP headrests till now.
Of course I can try find an upholstery shop, which can replace some panels, probably against a huge bill.
But, stubborn as I am, I like to do things myself, so I repaired the rip with a patch behind it.
Also removing the stitching, which is a real PITA, then filling the voids with some leather filler.
If it works, I will then re-dye them in the matching colors.
If not, it is off to the upholstery shop in embarrassment .

Any chance you could get video or audio recording of this sound? Sometimes noises on cars sound like the rear when they’re elsewhere. I’m not for one moment disagreeing or doubting you, but I think after that much effort working on a vehicle and ending up with the same result beckons some outside the box thinking.

Aerial grounding
Been getting very slight buzzing from my radio, plus some problems with it not extending fully. So took it off and also found that the drain was blocked resulting in quite a lot of rust on the bottom of the motor housing. Haven't figured out how to replace the mast yet so just cleaned out the innards which has improved operation quite a bit.
Also noticed that the ground strap had split so I fabricated another myself. One step forwards let's hope!
Ps: this is an absolutely filthy job once you've opened the housing.
