I carried on toing the cam shains today... And I am now super happy, that I started to do them NOW. The tensioners are cracked and the top rail/plastic has broken off. It is somewhere in the sump... But if I had driven that engine longer, it would be scrap!
At the same time I am pleased, that I set the timing spot on! Not a tad out! Perfect!
as I reported in a separate thread, the rebuilt upper front shock mounts with the hard neoprene are noisy: "It is cold here in Virginia, so the annual clunking started. Pulled the upper mount on the right side to see what was wrong: the mount bushing had come undone (large washer on top had separated from the bushing; the neoprene material on the bottom had deteriorated, such that the shock rod was beating against the mount frame once the temperature got below 50*F."
Bought the replacement URO unit from Rock Auto, ~$53 plus shipping. Good looking part; took ten minutes to replace the old, rebuilt unit. Dead quiet. Good buy! Unfortunately, the left mount is out of stock: hoping they get one back in soon.
Picked up a decent set of of Penta wheels, wrapped them with some new rubber and installed them on my '02 VDP. What a difference a set of wheels makes!
Not the best pics because it was so overcast but I'm very pleased with the new 'sportier' appearance. I'm pretty sure my '97 XJ6 is jealous, so I'm on the lookout for another set of Pentas to show her some love as well.
Got the under the hood tool kit that was missing. Looks good ...
Very nice!
I got mine a couple of years ago when it was easier to find good ones for $100, got mine shipped from England too.
Wrap the kit in plastic wrap if you are going to keep it under the hood, keeps everything clean and new looking.
Not EOM for US cars but nice to have. I even mounted a Jag umbrella in the trunk like they are provided in the European cars.
Just a hint: If you want a tool kit, get one NOW before they become a must have for shows and/or get expensive and hard to find. This has not happened to our Jags yet, but.....
My Ferrari came with all the original tools, jack, manuals, etc. It makes the car "complete" and now they are worth a huge bump in price if I choose to sell.

Wrapping it in plastic would cause the tools to rust wouldn't it? ... I was just planning to wax the tools so they stay rust free and shinny.
Mine has been in the car wrapped for two years, no rust. I did coat the tools with some light oil before I wrapped it. The tool kit cover does not seal very well so I thought it was best to protect the kit.
BTW, I did use one of the wrenches once to disconnect the battery cables to a hard reset on the side of the road!
