Default What is the empty "box" in engine compartment?

Inspecting the engine compartment of my new '01 XJ8 left me scratching my head: there's a small black plastic "box" with cover on the passenger side near the windshield. It's built into the engine compartment and it's empty. It seems that something was in there at some point, and I think I may have seen somewhere that it's a "tool box" of some kind. Any knowledge on this one?

Yes, as per LaserSVt's suggestion, there is some recent info in this thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-84298/page92/

That compartment held an OEM toolkit in European X308s, but not USA versions.

You can buy original toolkits for around $125.00, and some forum members make their own versions too.

So they bounce around a lot? I guess being from Texas I would've thought they'd be bigger. lol

I actually don't keep them there. (I would fit a proper foam tray but they would soon rust) I carry at least one on my person or in the car with me at all times. I'm too old to fight so I would simply defend myself if needed. (we have 'stand-your-gound-laws')

We have the right to carry firearms here in Texas if not a 'prohibited-person'.
