Welcome to the forum rob.low,
DVLA aren't renowned for their accuracy!
Any Jaguar dealer will be able to tell from the VIN exactly which model you have. They can lookup the original build specification of the vehicle on the Direct Dealer Warranty System.

I know on the old model (x300) the base car was called an 'Executive' and on the newer model (x308) the base model is called the 'Sport' so might just be a relic of the older model,
i think the order for the x308 is
XJ Sport - 3.2 litre V8
XJ8 - 3.2 litre V8
XJ8 - 4.0 litre V8
Sovereign - 4.0 litre V8, long wheelbase
XJR - 4.0 litre V8 supercharged
