Default the X308 projector headlight like BRUTAL's

Hi,
I'm new member to this forum, I want to put an HID to my Xjr 308. I afraid that it will blind other people. I saw on BRUTAL profile picture that he have a projector headlight on X308. Please advice where I can find them?
Regards,
Jimmy

BRUTAL made them himself - a couple years ago I asked him about marketing them, and this was his reply:

" Thought about marketing a kit for it?
YES ACTUALLY, BUT WOULD REALLY ONLY WANT TO DO ONLY IF I INSTALL SINCE THE RADIATOR CORE SUPPORT, AND HEADLIGHT MOUNTS HAVE TO BE MODIFIED EXTENSIVELY TO FIT PROPERLY. "

Since he is in deepest, darkest Texas I couldn't pursue it.....

Yup, that's a custom job he did on those lamps. You can't buy the entire housing, (he probably started with salvaged units as not to rush the project) ballasts and then just install them. You have to cut out the back of the original lamp, install a projector, secure and seal it, then do the bulb, ballast and wiring. The hardest part is getting the projector into the housing for a clean, OEM look. You should have some crafty skills however to tackle such a job yourself.

Hi,
Thank you all for your advice, I will stay with my old stock light then. Do our X308 have a stock Xenon head light option from the factory?
Regards,
JImmy

Here is an idea that I have been toying with. Like Brutal, buy another housing so the original can be unmolested. Buy something like these 5.75 round projector bulbs and make a custom mount from the factory setup.

I haven't done a precise measurement of the factory lens, but my quick check appears to have it at the 5.75 diameter. At this point, it would allow for lens focusing and easy HID installation.

Thoughts?

Good idea midlife. The link to the ebay housings still need to have projector housings installed, full cutoff and designed for HID output. Those would still be technically illegal.

To do it correctly, I believe you should start with a salvaged pair of projector lamps, either the entire setup like this one

and then if it doesn't come with bezels (to dress it up on the inside of the stock housing) grab some of those, and if they don't have ballasts and bulbs, buy a kit to suit your taste.

There are even aftermarket kits with the projectors/bulbs/ballasts/bezels, but I am unsure of the quality of the projectors, and that makes a huge difference. I'd stick with the Audi/BMW/Merc/Lexus and the other import HID projectors that use the systems designed around the OSRAM bulb, just like the jags do.

The HIDs work ok in the normal Crystal lenses though you know. Because of the shape they make the cut offs are there. Crosbo has a whole post on this matter on the go here, look it up. There is really no need to use projectors when the Crystals do the job so well in the first place.

Here is the link to Crosbo's HID Thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=33781

just so you know I used a setup I took from broken Stype HID projector assemblies. the back of the lights are a fiibeglass. type composite and I made an exact diameter cutoff wheel to mount in a air grinder then cut the opening and epoxied the projector assembly into the housing. Its not water tight and I drilled a small hole in the bottom of the housing back to let out any water that gets in. I had them in there 3 yrs without issue and yes they look great and are bright. 1 day Ill get around to doing the high beams without a cutoff
