Default X308 XJR VEE mounts - RESOLVED

Hi guys I'm new here so i hope I'm posting in the right place.

I own a 99 jag xjr and have some issues i need some help with.

First is a clunkin noise from the front as i hit pot holes and bumps ect now I've had the bottom BJ's replaced both side and both front shocker bushes are fine one thing i have noticed is the engine drops under breaking (a lot) and was told this could be the Vee mounts that may need replacing.

How can i tell if they are worn or what do i look for to find out?

Cheers
Lee

Lee,

I've moved your question from UK Region section to X308 section. You'll get advice here from members with the same model as you have.

Open a hood and ask buddy to make a hard stop from a 5km/h. If the engine drops down a lot - you have to replace a vee mounts.

The vee mounts replacement requires dismounting of the front subframe. It's better to ask indy or a dealer to do that. Also, don't forget to buy a vee mounts bolts, they are prone to brake while taking them off.

Where can i get hold of the replacement torx bolts or is there an alternative i can use? And which bolts snap during removal I'm taking it you are talking about the long ones that go through the chassis?

Dealer had them in stock, so i've bought them from a dealer. Yes, i'm talking about long once, but, IMO, when you are working with a old enough suspension on a perfomance vehicle it's better to replace every bolt. They are not as expensive, as a bodywork is

The two long bolts (item 8) are M8 and should be easily sourced. The Parts Catalogue doesn't give the size for the four pan head torx screws:

I've done several of these and have never had either the bolts or the screws break but have always given them a good soak with penetrating oil before attempting to move them. Maybe I've been lucky and MoscowLeaper has been unlucky with them.

On older models, hexagon bolts were used instead of pan head torx screws and these did tend to round off or shear.

Thanks for the reply guys have done a bit of shopping around and the M8s are easy to get hold of but the pan head torxs are discontinued (item 7 on the pic)

Does any one know of a replacement for these or know the thread depth so i can get a replacement before removal?

Thanks
Lee

Happy days guys got a nice man at a garage to do the job for £250 including parts.

After he dropped the sub the engine mounts fell out as they where shot lol
he replaced those too, I'm happy to report no more knock or bangs from the front end and no more engine dip under breaking.

For new people looking to buy one of these cars jack up the front end and remove a wheel and check the vee mounts they are easy to see with the wheel removed and if the rubber has come away from the steel plate they need replacing they are located just behind the shocker and above the coil spring see pic https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...il_welding-jpg

Next thing on my list is full poly bush replacement and gearbox oil change.

Thanks for all the info guys take care

Lee

Lee,

Good to hear you got it fixed. Thanks for posting the outcome.

I've added 'RESOLVED' to your thread title to help other searching for the same issue in future.
